Ask Italian

Great value 3 course menu at Ask Northampton. I hadn't been to Ask for several years, but we were going to the Derngate theatre and the Ask is literally on the corner. As a Perks member, I'd had my weekend email so decided to give the 3 course special a try. My choices: stuffed mushrooms with lemon mayonnaise, fettuccine bolognese and finishing up with a honeycomb cheesecake, washed down with still strawberry lemonade. Himself had burrata, lasagna and the most wicked dark chocolate and blood orange tart: definitely the winning dish of the day. Total cost was £38.90, which for 3 courses and two drinks was excellent. The offer menu isn't huge: a choice of about 6 starters and mains, and 4 desserts, but the quality is still there and surprisingly the portion size seemed to be the same as the full price menu. I could have done with a 2 mile stroll to walk it off instead of a 200 yard dash through the gale to the theatre, but that was my fault for not allowing enough time. Thoroughly recommended, advisable to book - even at 545 on a Saturday evening.

Ask is our favourite restaurant. We visit often, and always before seeing a show a the Royal and Derngate theatre, which is close by. We always receive a warm welcome, the service is wonderful and the menu is delicious. Nothing is too much trouble, and everyone goes out of their way to make your visit a happy and pleasant experience. I would recommend it highly.

Went here on a Sunday evening around 7pm so it was very quiet and most of the tables were not taken though it was a smaller sized unit. Parking is available on the street next to the Cultural Quarter so was convenient. As expected, service was prompt and dishes came out on time. For a chain restaurant, I can’t complain, they delivered on what they said they would. Would come back again and highly recommend this restaurant.

Very good experience here today, 17 of us met for our post Christmas meal, everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed our meals, the establishment is immaculate and the staff are smartly attired and very polite. First class experience, excellent menu selection and the meals are freshly cooked and the flavours are sublime. A 10 out of 10 score from us.

Handy for the theatres and Errol Flynn Filmhouse, this is a branch of the ASK chain of Italian restaurants with really nice food and a good range of drinks options. This now includes iced tea, which we rarely see on drinks menus outside the Southern USA and made a change. Our food was really nice and the service was fine, if perfunctory, from our waitress. Would have been nice to have felt a little more welcome but she seemed a bit bored. The two guys serving were a bit more upbeat. Otherwise there were no comments that need making and our simple meal post cinema was pleasant and good value. A thumbs-up from one of the chefs in the open kitchen was a great extra as we left. Might try Pizza Express round the corner again next time as the staff are friendlier and it does make a difference to your experience as a customer.

Visited twice now. Once with a work night out where the atmosphere was really good, busy, vibrant with great service. The second time was in July 2014, with my Mother and Sister. I had a great little beef dish, baked pasta with green chilli, small salad and some bread. Food-wise, excellent taste, service, again really good, you felt relaxed. You can see the chefs hard at work if you sit downstairs (inside). Some people may say that the food is over-priced, however I think it is fair and my Mother ordered a child portion which the restaurant was fine with.
