Place is great. The food is significantly better if you eat at the restaurant, and you have to order the right food. The hot and sour soup as well as the sesame chicken were probably the best I've eaten in the area.

This is the best hidden gem. Boneless spare ribs are the best that I have ever had. Sesame chicken is banging and good chicken too. My go to.

Best take out chinese food in the area! They are very receptive to special instructions such as light oil. The food is very fresh and consistently excellent quality. The spare ribs on the bone and and sesame chicken are top notch

Updating my review. Things were much better the second time. I'll chalk up the first visit to pandemic issues. Food was better and yay sauce etc!
The food is alright for the area, but the takeout system is weird. Not including any sauce packets or at least a fortune cookie, with a $40 takeout order, is stingy.

Our second time ordering from Shanghai Gourmet since moving to Wilton. It was a big family order and it was outstanding! We ordered at least a dozen different dishes and everything was hot and delicious. After trying many average and subpar Chinese restaurants in the Wilton and Norwalk area we have finally found our go to Chinese place. Highly recommended.

I have to say this is the first and last time I will go there. I went soley on the reviews and honestly do not know how they get such high reviews. Out of 3 meals and appetizers the lomein was the only edible item but needed soy sauce for taste. No taste, crispy orange chicken that was not crispy and had no orange, veggie dumplings had no flavor just simple a waste of money. our other chicken dish has same issue.

LOVE this place! They make THE best coconut milk/lemongrass chicken and shrimp and they serve it with the best, freshest veggies- I'm talking chopped asparagus and julienned zucchini not cheap stock frozen vegetables. So so good 👍
