Goose At Gamston

Read the glowing reviews of this Green King pub and booked for lunch with friends who we hadn’t seen since lockdown. My wife had a glutinous steak and ale pie in a sagging pastry case. Finding meat was a challenge. I looked forward immensely to the half back of ribs and 8oz rump combo. The chef/cook whatever must have stripped the meat from the bones of 4 tiny ribs and smothered them in a sweet gluey sauce to disguise the lack of meat. The 30day aged 8oz rump was decidedly chewy with little sign of its 30day maturity. My friends 8oz was equally chewy and stringy. The only decent dish was the scampi which not even an untrained cook would be hard pushed to get wrong. Fortunately we only paid half price as it was on the Govt. deal. So glad I hadn’t paid the full price. Never again thank you Green King chain.
