Grounded Kitchen, Coffee & Bar

A late review from the summer, but here it is! Grounded Kitchen is a great spot to come with coworkers in the downtown core, but also great for dinner with friends! The drinks were delicious, especially the espresso martini. We enjoyed the BBQ plate and the special of the day, which was a catfish. The BBQ plate standouts were the ribs and beans!

Although this place stepped up as a welcome refuge for us when everything else was closed and it was raining, still it wasn’t amazing. Mostly because it was freezing inside. I understand that it’s good to have some ventilation and that it’s better for covid, but it was simply too cold. Also the music was not great, and I don’t really get why they have a TV on, kind of ruins the atmosphere. Additionally, the coffee was pretty bad. The service was nice though and the food was good. Not a lot of selections for breakfast though, mostly it’s either a smoothie or a breakfast sandwich with an egg, cheese and bacon.

This small restaurant is a combination coffee shop, BBQ joint, and bar. The food is good, if priced a bit high. The staff is super friendly and welcoming too. Unfortunately we informed them about peanut allergies at our table before ordering, but there were actual peanuts in some of our food. No one died so that was good.

With restaurants getting slammed by COVID and the resulting lockdowns I decided to go out support a local restaurant today. I’d never been to Grounded Kitchen but read great reviews and I can say without hesitation the food and service is amazing! I tried multiple plates such as the Colombo Curry, Beef Stew, and smoked cheddar and chive perogies - all excellent dishes. Add chicken to the Columbo Curry for additional texture and flavour. Also, their Sour IPA is fantastic paired with dessert. I’d definitely go back again!
