Deans Restaurant

Have to say the day didn’t go as planned and wasn’t expecting to end up at Deans. Saying that very happy we did. It seems very hard to find a location in Perth that does a Sunday roast. Deans does a great one if I have to say. What to expect a very warm welcome and friendly staff. We were shown to our table not the best as we were seated by the entrance to the toilet. This was a surprise as there was only one other table being used so maybe not the best location was a negative but in the end didn’t spoil the day. Servcs was good was offered a drink when seated then a few minutes later was asked for the food order. This seemed simple but not as easy as you would expect as they take the order as you sit at the table this didn’t work when the starters arrived as I didn’t get what I ordered and didn’t end up eating my one as the order I asked for was given to one of the others and they loved the theatre that went with the food and didn’t want to take it from them. So I missed out as what was ordered for them wasn’t for me. It didn’t go to waste as it scoffed very quickly by the other half as the food was so good. When the mains were served I got my roast beef that was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Only negative was the size of the Yorkshire pudding they were tinny. It was hard to find on the plate. Then again the chicken dish didn’t come with a Yorkshire pudding that he was looking forward to as that is one on the best parts of a Sunday lunch. Might be better if they’d gone to get aunt betty’s. We all enjoyed what we ordered and so happy we ended up at Deans. I will be going back again to try the rest of the food on offer and if as good as what was served today will keep visiting when I visit Perth. This is a must visit if you are in Perth, if today is a sample of what to expect. It can only get better.

The restaurant was recommended to us for having a nice lunch on our sixth wedding anniversary. We before had read some of the previous critical feedbacks on Tripadvisor, reporting for example excessive salt and lacking service, but I can only say: Our lunch was amazing in every respect! The service was excellent and friendly, attentive without being overpowering, and swift, but without making you feel rushed. The food was just wonderful – from the starters to dessert – great quality, varieties and subtleties in flavours, taste and presentation, and this coming also in the right proportions and at a good price. We certainly will be back for another delight!

If you are in the Fair City of Perth and you are looking to impress I recommend Dean's. It is a bit more pricy but the hit in your pocket I am sure you will feel is money well spent. The menu is not huge, I see that as a positive with a professional chef it should result in good quality and well prepared food and it is. I booked on the Web site the response was quick which to me is a must. The service was good but not 5 star the drinks waiter was unable to recite the selection of rums available at the bar. This is an issue to be sorted by front of house. The food was delivered quickly; hot ;and we presented. My group had the sea Brean and the venison. Full marks in that area. One sweet was ordered lemon meringue pie. Again full marks. Put all this into a warm 25c evening was perfect.

Phoned to book for 1 pm and told only had a table at 12.30 pm. Arrived to an empty restaurant and after 3 courses it was only half full when we left. Minor point that there was a limited selection of beer available as they did not have not everything on the menu, fine for larger and pale ales. Cannot fault the food, the cheese soufflé is so light and delectable, the whisky sauce was delicious and I would have loved a smidgen more. The chicken main course was moist and tasty, again served with a beautifully made sauce. However I could not taste the chicken in the crispy confit chicken leg through the amount of wholegrain mustard which was the only thing that spolied the dish for me. (I did mention it). Finished with strawberry creme brule with basil sorbet and realise that basil sorbet is not my thing. Would still recommend as each dish was beautifully presented and expertly made.
