Nicholls Oval Restaurant

I am aware of past employees. Being horrible I am positive some bad reviews stem from them . Homemade batter, tartar sauce and great fish . The Nicholls oval burger is Stellar !!!!!! And one of my favorite places to get battered shrimp. The owners are good people and the staff is friendly go there ....... go there now !

This restaurant used to be our go to place. It was our favorite place to come for either breakfast or lunch.The restaurant has changed ownership within the last few months and they decided to not serve breakfast anymore. We used to go in there all the time for their amazing breakfast. Omg! Who’s IDIOT idea was that? That wasn’t a smart move because the restaurant is set up as a breakfast/lunch establishment for YEARS. We saw three different couples come in the establishment ( while we were eating) get up and walk out when it was discovered they were no longer serving breakfast. Oh boy that was painful to watch. Is this not sending you guys a signal that not serving breakfast was a bad move? 🤦🏻‍♂️ We decided to give the restaurant a try anyway because we feel to give the new owners a shot. On the lunch menu, they had a ‘Western Sandwich’. We gave our order to the waitress and she said they ‘were almost out of eggs’. Ok... No western sandwich. Not enough eggs because obviously they do not serve breakfast anymore! well, the western sandwich is ON THE LUNCH MENU!! So we both ordered two wraps. One was a Greek wrap and the other was a veggie wrap. Unfortunately the wraps ( were not wrapped well) and the contents inside were so runny, it was leaking from the bottom on the wrap all over the plate and difficult not to have the juices splash on our clothing ( it looked like placenta ) . We both decided to unravel our wraps and dump the contents on the plate and eat the contents with a fork. It’s obvious who ever took over this place has not had diner experience. These new owners better wake up because they are changing things for the worse! It’s awful to watch this restaurant go down in flames.

The food is fantastic, and the staff even more so!! I had ordered the fish and chips for take out a few weeks ago and they were amazing. Today, I had the BEST Paleo burger I've had in Peterborough. The meat was fresh, not frozen, they used real cheese and accompanying vegetables were fresh and crisp. I will definitely not only go there again, but recommend the to everyone I know.

Two bad experiences! This has been a family favourite restaurant in town for their fish and chip dinners, we will not be returning now. Recently we went in to dine, 3 out of 4 people were served their lunches while one person sat. We all waited for a while but eventually ate because our food was getting cold. A salad was included in the persons lunch that was waiting and that wasn't even given. We all finished our food and after asking the waitress what was going on, the manager came over and blamed the waitress and cook for the long wait. Finally the last persons food was served and they awkwardly ate alone. They did not offer a discount or any sort of compliment. Second attempt was ordering in from skip the dishes. We again ordered fish and chips. The meals came but no fries, so we call the restaurant to let them know. The waitress answers the phone, asks us to hold, and then finally when she answers the first thing she says is "I'm doing this all alone". So we explain that we ordered and payed for our food and there were no fries, she tells us she told the cook to include the fries and she will have to call us back. Remember, we have already paid for these fries she is now calling us back about. We wait for a while and decide to just speak with skip the dishes, who immediately reimbursed us (good customer service note)..someone else did eventually call us back AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER! They offered to send out our fries and give us a 20% discount but only if we walked into their store lol we usually never complain but wow. After these two experiences ... I have to earn others to not waste your money.

We used to enjoy going to Nichols oval for fish and chips but today we got a rude awaking as to quality and quantity of fish to chips. The previous owners gave you large pieces of fish for the same money that today’s owners charge fo a half piece of fish and chewy dry fries. We will not be going back to this restaurant and will be looking for another fish and chip restaurant for future meals .don’t get me wrong the fish tasted great but we had to look to find it literally

Ate here once but was not impressed. Won't be long before the place closes for good. No breakfast or lunch being served, only takeout for dinner 4 days a week. With all the downtime during the pandemic this place should be looking inviting. Instead the outside is filthy, spider webs and cobwebs all over signage and windows. Edited: Closed June 2021

Great food, just on the inconsistent side at times but I do enjoy their home fries for breakfast. Could use better coffee than the cheap kind they use. Many local coffee houses they could buy fresh beans from within Peterborough. But overall good food and clean place to visit. Extra parking located along the bike trail just steps away. Staff is always friendly and courteous.
