The experience was amazing. Top notch staff. Wine was superb. Food wasn't as exceptional as expected but it was tasty. The atmosphere sets the tone so in my mind I wanted more flavorful foods. I'll definitely go again & explore more of the food selections. I kinda left feeling hungry. I ordered the smoked collards( very very smoky but no meat), fried shrimp 4 count (too spicy, like spicy spicy) (shared) crab mac n cheese the cheese was amazing but crab flavor was lacking & key lime pie(amazing) HAPPY BIRTHDAY Gianna Edmunds

This place was an absolute vibe! I came here for my birthday, and felt so well taken care of. They made me feel really special. The food was absolutely amazing. I came with a big party, and we ordered different things so we could try everything, And there was nothing that we ate that I didn't love. Can't wait to come back.

It is absolutely gorgeous inside! Looks super upscale, clean and just so beautiful. We were seated in a comfy booth and just so happened to catch a live band. The music was great and I sang along most of the night. The host and manager were super friendly and accommodating. We started off with mac n cheese w added crab that was prepared by request without pimento (bc of a kid). It was very enjoyable. The shrimp and grits was tasty but the grit texture was cakey and could use some tweaking. I had the crabcakes and although I really liked the dish, the actual crab cake was very salty. The parmigian truffle fries were very mild in taste, so it was just ok. I truly wanted better food, but overall I would visit again. It was a great experience and the prices are very reasonable. I would love to make this a regular spot if they can improve the food a bit.

WOW! What a hidden gem. If the doors were not open, I could have probably passed right by this place several times and had no idea what was inside. The atmosphere was incredible. The service was incredible, and the food was incredible. I went with three other people, and we all ordered something different and then shared, so I got to taste four different things, in just one visit. I tried the shrimp and grits, the biscuits and gravy, the hash, and the chicken and waffles. I'm really not a shrimp and grit person, but I can tell you that was actually my favorite dish! The Grits were creamy, and the shrimp was cooked & seasoned perfectly. The biscuits and gravy were delicious. The biscuit was perfectly constructed. It was flaky, seasoned, soft, and buttery. It was very fresh. I definitely wish there would have been more gravy on the platter, but thankfully, I was able to order an extra side. The hash was delicious. The brisket was tender and perfectly seasoned. The chicken and waffles was tasty. The chicken had the perfect amount of spice to give it just a little kick. I would definitely recommend this be added to your list under "BEST BRUNCH IN PHILADELPHIA."

It's an incredible revival of the old Rex, with great flare and decadence. The food and cocktails are divine. Southern cuisine done well with great taste. The menu is classic with a great twist throughout -- there's something for everyone! It's a versatile space that's lively and fun. Great for a date night or a gathering of friends for dinner. Has been my go-to when reservations elsewhere seems hard to come across.

Warm and welcoming, everyone that worked there stopped and spoke with us. Wide range of creative cocktails, food menu was so tempting, it was hard to know what to choose. Everything we ordered was great! Swordfish steak was so tender and buttery. Everything was the right temperature. Very cool history of the building as well. We want to go back to hear the live music.

This was my first visit. I loved the ambience. Our server was very attentive and explained the evening's special, answered our questions about the menu and drinks. We went with the Special which was Grilled Red Fish over Grits topped with Grilled Shrimp, it was absolutely Delicious! We also had the skillet cornbread which didn't disappoint. I will definitely make a return visit.

Absolutely delicious is the best way to describe the food at Rex! The flavor and presentation are excellent! The staff are friendly and very proud of their restaurant. They know the menu and make great suggestions. Cocktails are amazing. The entree portions are very large, so order one side to share. The cornbread is sweet and rustic, and pairs well with spicy food.

I love the history of this place and had an absolutely fantastic dining experience here recently. The service was outstanding. Our server, Jason was attentive and made great recommendations. The bartender was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful in selecting cocktails to fit our palate. The stuffed trout was hands down my favorite dish. I also enjoyed the crab fondue, oxtails & oysters. I’ll definitely be back to catch the live music and for brunch. 10/10
