George's Sandwich Shop

We been going here for over 20 years. George has the best roast pork sandwiches. The meat is tender and juicy and always on a fresh roll. 4 stars because we can never get through on their phone. We come a long way and twice they were closed and twice they ran out of everything. Putting up a valid phone number would save me and others who would like to make sure you have the sandwiches and that they are open. 6/29/22…..out of everything.

Perfect location, in the heart of the Italian Market, this place can get a little lost with Lorenzo’s directly next door, but George’s certainly holds its own. Friendly staff, and fast service, this tiny place has a lot of heart. Loved the $7 long roll breakfast sandwiches. Good stuff all around. Would recommend.

Quintessential Philadelphia greasy spoon. That's a good thing. Used to go all the time, but moved outta Philly a few years back. Was saddened to learn of George (I believe this wasn't his actual name) passing away. That was around the last time I stopped by, but they were closed in remembrance. He was a true hustler. The embodiment of a blue collar Philly guy, through and through. I've always ordered the same exact thing, since long as I can remember...two Burn My A$$ hot sausages, with extra long hots, and raw onion. I'm extremely grateful that the cute daughter and other family members have kept this institution from my childhood, and a staple of the Italian Market up and running. I will stop by soon, cause all this talk about food is making me hungry.

I’m an old “Willie’s” customer, for anyone who remembers the best pork and best tripe sandwiches that you could get in South Philadelphia, ever. I went here and ordered 1 pork and 1 tripe sandwich last week, just to see how they compared, George’s being the last place I’m aware of where you can still get a tripe sandwich. I was fully expecting disappointment. I was shocked to find both sandwiches were absolutely delicious! I came back the next day and bought 5 of each to feed my father and brother-in-law, uncle myself. My family has a new sandwich joint now. Thanks boys! Great job!
