The Pub Chip Shop

We stumbled upon this gem when me and my husband stayed in the Southside a few years ago. We were looking for breakfast and saw there were home made donuts and the menu looked great. When we arrived we saw the donuts sold out fast! Get them before the sell out each day! We also ordered the breaded chicken with boxty tots and sausage gravy. We took that back to our Airbnb and was loved by the whole crowd. Today we were able to get back in town from VA. My husband ordered to the fish and chips with boxty tots. I got the fish tacos. Best breading ever! The tots are homemade and have a delish potato flavor with home made breading taste. Like grandma used to make! We highly recommend the Pub Chip Shop. I knew this place had to be good when I saw their homemade donuts sold out (you'll have to get there early enough!) Holy cow! Fantastic place for food! I ordered a steak and ale meat pie paired with a homemade savory gravy that blew my socks off wow Fantastic flaky sausage roll to boot! Really exceptional! For a great price too! Now that I've had a taste I wanna try the whole menu! Homemade sauces and everything, a true Pittsburgh treasure. Long Live The Pub Chip Shop!!! (if anyone finds my socks please contact me)

Tried this place today with co-workers. Most of us ordered Fish & Chips (Tartar), some also ordered the Mac & Cheese. To begin the place is a nice setup, and very friendly staff. The food came out quickly and hot which was nice, and the presentation of the fish & chips was lovely. Only negative which may have just been today, the fish was lacking flavor, and the Tartar was mostly Mayo, didn’t sense any dill in it. Co-worker said the Mac & Cheese could’ve had more cheese, but that’s his opinion. The $13 price is also fair, but expected a bigger portion of fish or a lot more chips. This rating was just todays visit, I may return one day and maybe the flavors will be there.

But of an odd setup but ok. The pub chip shop/donut shop is allegedly owned by the same people who own Piper's next door, which has I guess been closed for awhile. Explains why strikingly similar food appears on neighboring menus. You go in, order, and if there are people at the window seat, take your food to go. If there aren't people at the window, grab a seat and people watch. Prime people watching window. We got the chicken tikka pie, which we are walking down Carson. The crust was solid, a bit underdone on the sides, and the filling was rich. I thought it leaned more tomato than indian but it was good. We went later in the day so they were sold out of donuts but it was worth the $8 for the novelty and experience. I'd go back and try something new.
