Brioche Doree is one of the best spots in Oakland. If I have to meet someone in the area early (they close at 3 pm, sadly) I always ask them to meet me at Brioche Doree. It's nice and never too busy.
Brioche Doree is in the University Club building, so it might seem off limits, but it's a public cafe (you don't have to be a member or faculty).
