This downtown Portland farm to table mainstay has been near the top for decades for good reason. Excellent menu featuring fresh Northwest cuisine, bistro classics and elevated sandwiches. Several vegetarian options as well, some vegan. Flawless preparation and presentation. Cassoulet was rich, savory and satisfying without being heavy. Vegan samosas with vegetable curry also outstanding. Service is informative, professional and unfussy. Not expensive for the quality as long as you don't get carried away by the amazing beverage selection - Higgins was at the forefront in offering craft and Belgian beers when I first came here in the 1990s. You can't go wrong at Higgins.

We enjoyed a Friday night dinner in the dining room. The staff was attentive and super friendly. The food was excellent. We ordered the mussels appetizer, the mussels were steamed perfectly, but the soup base was the star of the show. I ordered the lamb pasta dish, which was delicious, and I was surprised by the portion, my husband had to help me finish. My husband ordered the duck as an entree and he said it was fantastic, portion size was basically half a duck, which was amazing.

Amazing food, service was superb and the atmosphere was just so cozy! My business partner and my 8 year old son came in on our way home from a business trip and we decided to stop in for dinner for her birthday. We all got fish dishes and they were UNBELIEVABLE! Our server, an older English fellow I believe, was funny and just so friendly and knowledgeable! I will be definitely going here again and again when I come through from WA!
