Skyline Restaurant

After doing some research on classic, authentic diners in the Portland area, I finally landed on Skyline Restaurant. My wife and I visited today and it was everything I'd hoped for! When we walked in, the aroma of their food was immediately tantalizing, and the environment in the diner just felt immediately warm and inviting. We sat down in a booth and only waited a couple minutes before our server came to take our order. The staff was super friendly and attentive throughout our visit. I wanted to get the "flagship" experience so I opted for the 1/4 lb. bacon cheeseburger, fries and a mocha shake (I would have gone for the more classic chocolate malt, but hey - I needed some afternoon caffeine, so two birds, one stone 😊). Our food came out remarkably fast and it was hot, fresh and delicious. The burger bun was substantial and the grilled patty was just the right thickness. It was that classic fast food-style burger where it's not super thick, which is my preference. The bacon was lean and had just the right balance of crunch and chewiness. The cheese, sauce, fresh lettuce, tomato and pickle topped off the burger perfectly. The fries are the shoestring variety, which, again, is my personal favorite style. They were so tasty! They actually reminded me of the fries at In-N-Out, which I mean as a high compliment. The shake was super thick and was a very generous portion. Overall, the meal was exactly what I had hoped for and hit all the right notes. My wife generally embraces a vegetarian diet so she was pleased with the vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. She had the porta bella sandwich and said it was delicious, too. I got the sense as we ate that this was a favorite spot for folks who live nearby. There was almost a small town sense of community in the restaurant. I heard a man sitting near me telling his friend he was a regular here, and I got the impression that was the case for many of the patrons there. It's awesome to know a classic, nostalgic diner like Skyline still exists and is relatively close by for us. For your classic diner comfort food like burgers, fries and shakes, plus some veggie- and vegan-friendly menu options, this is your place if you're looking for that atmosphere, service and menu. We'll definitely be back, and I'm eager to show my friends and family this place!

So good! Gluten free bun option for burgers and the waitress was really friendly plus knowledgeable about what shakes have gluten, I had the chocolate covered cherry one and didn't get sick (non celiac). They use Little Northern Bakehouse buns I believe, which are the best! The potato salad was homemade and fine.

A must visit Portland spot! There’s a reason this charming restaurant has stayed open as long as it has. The people here are great, the food takes care of any cravings, and the atmosphere is fun and inviting. I love how they decorate for each holiday (Halloween is my favorite) and the bowl of lollipops is never low. I always go for a skyline cheeseburger or aloha burger and split a basket of gravy fries with my brother. My aunt and uncle frequent here during every visit to Portland and they’d both recommend a root beer float to pair with your burger, or try out the crispy fried chicken. We love Skyline!

We ordered the poutine, which I think was seasonal, the Aloha burger, a classic cheeseburger, and a cherry malt shake. The poutine felt a little imbalanced, as you get a good serving of fries topped with cheese curds, but a modest amount of gravy. But the flavor was good! Both burgers were great, and the shake was fantastic!

I have never had the pleasure of eating here until today. Driven past hundreds of times saying i should try it. What the hell was i thinking waiting until today, I ordered a 16 dollar burger and got a hundred dollar burger. Best burger im all of portland metro area. Never have i looked at a burger and saw defeat. This one struck fear into me, but i won. Ate every bite minus an onion that fell out. Phenomenal burger. Great diner with great service. Go now. Really. Go there now.

This is a really cute but small restaurant. They have indoor and outdoor seating but the bathroom is outside. The milkshake was really good, but I didn't really care for the fries they were nothing special. I ordered a Swiss mushroom burger and it was really good especially since they sauteed my onions like I asked. My man ordered a bacon cheeseburger and it didn't taste as good as mine. But my burger was bigger than his not realizing I ordered a bigger one. So there are two different sizes of burgers. The staff was nice, the restaurant seemed clean and there wasn't any odors. The bathroom definitely needs some love but it wasn't disgusting. I will be back!!

Skyline Burger is an institution of Portland, well worth coming in for a visit. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and Cajun fries, plus a chili dog. The burger is delicious, you can tell it's made with quality ingredients. The Cajun fries were good, and better than average, texture and flavor wise. The chili dog, because it was to-go had the chili served on the side, the hot dog was well grilled and tasted better than average. I didn't try their shakes, but considering the level of quality of their food, would be good. The atmosphere has an almost drive-in/diner feel to it, lots of nostalgia and memorabilia decorating the walls. It was very popular, even on a Sunday afternoon, inside and outside on their patio. Parking can get a little busy, but there is an adjacent parking area across the street from the restaurant for overflow.
