Great valve for food and drink, and for the sports people plenty of TVs for every one.

Decent enough pub in the town center.
Drink selection on tap is good but not amazing. Shows live sports which is nice. Lots of booth seating which is also really nice

Looking for a place to eat on a Friday night that was still serving regular food after 9pm. You order through an app at your table and they bring you everything. Great experience! The food was good. The music was good. The service and atmosphere were good. I would recommend to anyone passing through Reading.

Me and my sister visited this place and had a great time, great food lovely atmosphere and staff was friendly and welcoming; the bartender who served us, Nicola really stood out. so friendly very funny and super fast and accurate service. will be coming back!

Visited the Monks retreat and was not sure of what to expect, but endid up having a fine meal and drink, the Bar Maid Nikki was a fantastic breath of fresh air and assisted with the menu and drinks choise, she then went the extra mile to take my drinks to my table as i am disabled. So will definatly come again.
Nikki was so helpful what an asset to the pub.

As a regular customer in the Monks Retreat I would very much like to Commend the atmosphere in the pub particularly over the lunchtime period (11am-1500).
This is particularly down to the efficiency and as importantly the good humour of Nikki behind the bar.
She deserves all the plaudits she gets.

Went in for lunch on tuesday afternoon was a lovely atmosphere, pleasant staff especially nikki, nice to see a smiling face behind the bar, food was cheap and cheerful, overall a lovely afternoon

Called in today Friday. Working locally in Queen Victoria Street. Excellent Fish n chips with peas plus a drink. Good value. Top service. Highly recommend
