Mean Bird

This place is pretty good. I had the Nashville hot chicken and my fiancee had the two piece meal with Cajun fries. Both were amazing. If I had to compare it to hot chick, I'd say the chicken is cooked about the same "on point", but the Nashville hot chicken isn't as hot, which could be great for some people since the one at hot chick is a little spicy. THIS PLACE IS CARRY OUT ONLY. There isn't seating to eat, so just be prepared for that.

I've been a fan of Mean Bird since their food truck-only days. Their vegan options are delicious and innovative. I know some people wish the Veggie Bird was a mock meat instead of vegetables, but I find the Veggie Bird to be absolutely mouth-watering, crave-it-in-your-sleep sort of good. If you go into it expecting mock meat, I can see how the veggies might be a surprise, but they've been around long enough it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone anymore. In addition to the great food, I've never had an unpleasant experience with anyone who works there. If anything, they go above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of. I can't speak to their non-vegan options.

Mean Bird originally started out as a food truck, but they now have a brick and mortar location in addition to their mobile poultry delivery vehicle. It’s a fried chicken restaurant with the usual options of bone-in chicken, boneless chicken, and sandwiches with an added twist of vegan “bird” they make in house. The vegan “bird” here is made of fresh veggies, whole grains, rice, chickpeas, herbs & seasonings and then breaded using coconut milk and fried up. The “bird” is pretty tasty, though it’s more of a fried croquette than a meat substitute so keep that in mind. All sides and sauces are also labeled as vegan or non, so you won’t have to ask the cashier about the ingredients. Seating is limited to only four stools at the window, so it’s recommended to call ahead and place an order for pick up.

MAN MAN IS THIS A MEAN BIRD. I found this place on travel to Richmond. Once I had it for the first time I was hooked. The veggie bird is indescribable, and they never skimp in the fries 😁. I have yet to come to Richmond and not visit this place. Though I do not eat chicken anymore, I heard people raving about it as well.

Ordered a Bird King Sandwich through UberEats for lunch one day. I thought this would be a normal chicken sandwich but when it arrived I couldn't believe how heavy the bag was. I never thought the day would come when I would have to eat a fried chicken sandwich with a knife and fork, I had to cut this sucker into sections just to eat it and even then I only finished half. Come hungry because these guys aren't messing around.

I got the biggest chicken sandwich I've ever seen here. And it was good, too! It was supposed to be a take on hot chicken but I wouldn't really call it spicy like "real" Nashville hot chicken. But it did have some bite and great flavor and it was a huge piece of chicken. Can't wait to try some other selections.

I liked the vegan chicken, my husband not so much. Don't expect it to be like some brand's breaded vegan chicken options, it's more like a breaded stuffing ball. Since I like stuffing it was still good but not what we expected. The fries were amazeballs. I definitely appreciate that they list what is vegan on their online menu because it can be hard to tell with sauces sometimes.
