The Classic Cafe At Roanoke

Great restaurant with personalized excellent customer service. Food is thoughtfully prepared with excellence every time visiting. If you want an unique upscale Texas fine cuisine experience, this is your place. Our family has had almost everything on the menu. Salads are fresh with wonderful homemade dressing. Appetizers, hard to chose my favorite, Gulf Blue Crabcakes win out; but, check out the House smoked Salmon, delightful! Soups are seasonally changing and will not disappoint. Entrees, it is all good, seriously from vegetarian dishes to German inspired to some of the best steaks around, you cannot go wrong. Some unique takeout dishes to die for are chicken pot pie and weekly blue plate specials that don’t break the bank; but, offer profound perfection in every bite. This restaurant is Roanoke’s crowning jewel.

First time trying out this local spot. Currently serving to go orders only, but this is not an issue. Have to say, I was very pleased. Started with their house smoked salmon appetizer. The salmon had fantastic flavor, which went well with the capers and cream cheese options. Ordered the jaegerschnitzel with mashed potatoes and the braised red cabbage. The schnitzel was tender and moist with a well executed outer crust. Even without the gravy, it was well flavored. The braised cabbage exceeded expectations, as too many are overly sweet or tart. Not this. It had a perfect balance of flavors. The mashed potatoes were pretty good, with great flavor. I usually prefer a rougher mash with some texture, but that is a personal preference. I am looking forward to our dessert we added, but will have to comment later on that.

After being burned on New Years Eve take out from Ellerbe's Fine Food we figured we'd give another local restaurant a try during restaurant week. We ordered the pork jägerschnitzel - since it was fried we had a "truck picnic" but I think it would have been delicious even it taken home. It was crispy perfection & considering we ordered just one meal it was more than enough. The blueberry buttermilk pie slice was so good that my husband & I had a bite & I hid the rest for myself for later :) Will definitely make this one of our rotations for take out!
