Luby's Cafeterias

I came here today with my spouse to try the Lu Ann platter since I received a coupon for it yesterday. Our server at the table was Linda, she was friendly and helpful during our lunch visit. I got a chicken fried steak with corn and red potatoes. My spouse got the baked fish with spinach and red potatoes. We thought the food was seasoned okay. We do realize that there are people who cannot have salt and other specific ingredients that may compromise their health, but the food was good. We stuck to the water and got the Lu Ann selection which kept our bill for two at lunch about $8 each.

Went to Lubys after Church last weekend and was very impressed. A meal for two for about 25$ including drinks, I got the cheese bacon steak which stretched the whole plate and was filled up with my 2 sides. We were served quickly even in the church rush and with the TVS around the place, I was still able to watch the NBA game on, I was wanting to see. This was my 2nd time here, and will gladly look to come back after Church again.

3pm (3 people) Trays, cups and chairs were all sticky! Fried food was cold, cornbread was cold, broccoli/cheese... take a guess? Cheesecake was so warm that it was melting. Where is the quality control at this place??? One person working the entire line. Floor staff was kind and did their best to keep tables clean.

This place is a mess. The food is not good at all. Their desserts were awesome, the other food, not so much. I had to order my food because they had just run out of it on the line. They never brought it to me. We had to go ask someone and then they didn't give me everything and our waitress was not very attentive so we got another lady who was great.... So we tipped her instead. If all the Luby's are like this I can see why they are closing them. I hope they focus on bettering the experience with the ones staying open. I go yearly to celebrate my late Aunt/Mommy #2's birthday and I am hoping next year is better.

I've been a fan of Luby's since the first time I ate there, about 25 years ago, when I moved to Texas. I haven't been to one in quite a while and was cruising for someplace to eat the other day. I pulled in as soon as I saw it and was quite pleased with my choice. Cafeteria food isn't fancy and it's not for everyone. Luby's makes tasty, simple food and has been quite consistent in my experience at many different locations. You pick up a tray and silverware, push it down the counter and make your choices to the servers. Food is right in front of you, behind glass on a steam table. I happen to really enjoy their fried fish. I got a Luanne Platter, which is a slightly smaller portion of the main item, in my case half a piece of fish in a nice, crispy batter. You get two sides and I've always enjoyed their fresh cooked spinach. I got that with pinto beans. You have a choice of several breads and their whole wheat rolls always taste freshly baked. You pay and carry your tray to a table. For someone like me, who often goes into fast food joints, a somewhat balanced meal with some vegetables is a nice change. I enjoyed my lunch very much and was not disappointed with anything about the whole experience.
