Momo's Meat Market

Very cute shop! It's tiny but very cozy inside. It's got a comfortable, laid back, Jamaican/African vibe inside (Black owned business, which is awesome!). And they Q their meat on grills right out in the front parking lot next to the street! So cool! The hostess runs the till (totally nice lady), her husband mans the Q, and I think a cousin helps assemble the orders. They were all very friendly and down to earth. I ordered tri-tip with side of greens and side of mac/cheese. Just $12.99. Good sized portions for the $. I was totally full after I finished my food. The mac/cheese was delicious! They used penne for the pasta. The cheese sauce was amazing. Home made with sharp cheddar and some mild jalapeno slices for extra flavor. And the sauce wasn't a thin sauce. It was more dense and sticky/clumpy. The greens were mouth watering, too. Tender and succulent and perfectly salted. However, I did find two twigs in the greens. They might have been from the plant that the greens came from. Not sure. But it was unpleasant to unwittingly put a forkful of greens in your mouth and bite down on a stiff piece of plant twig. And lastly, the tri-tip. It looked delicious, smelled delicious, and had that yummy BBQ smoked flavor. But I was unhappy with the chewy factor. The tri-tip was juicy, to be sure, but was a bit tough to chew. By the time I had finished the meat, my jaw muscles were fatigued. All-in-all though, I would absolutely buy from Momo's again.

A friend from work recommended Momo's to me. This is the best bbq I've had in Sacramento. I got a full slab of ribs, baked beans, and pepper mac, along with both the hot and mild sauce...everything was delicious, the portions were huge. I'm stuffed and I've got a little more for seconds and even more for the omelet pan tomorrow morning. Can't wait to get back and try more. Oh yeah, they're hella friendly and outgoing...support your local business and visit momos.

It was a pleasure meeting you both today, and thank you for the wonderful meal and conversation! This was quite possibly the best BBQ I have had in my 22 years of traveling for work. My daughter is an especially picky eater, and she loved the BBQ chicken and mac & cheese! Will definitely stop by again the next time we're in town. Protip for anyone reading: get a 4-way and try it all, you won't be disappointed.
