O'brien Meats

Let me start off by saying that I have been a Fresh Market meat counter hound for years. I refuse to buy steaks from Kroger or Food Lion because the quality is always just lacking. The Fresh always had great cuts and a nice variety. Then one day, I went to O'Brien Meats in Salem. They have an impressive selection of hand cut meat, from your standards like ny strips and Ribeyes, to the hipper cuts like pork belly, hanger and flank. There is usually a few people in line, but everyone is given personal service, and it feels like they genuinely appreciate your business. As far as the cuts go, I have never had a problem. Everything is always awesome! If you love grilling burgers, their bacon/burger blend is a summertime must-have! Pictured is a whole brisket that I plan on smoking this weekend. @ 5 something a pound, you cant beat it!

You can't get a more tender rack of pork ribs anywhere local and the beaf ribeye are second only to a fresh ordered wagu. If anyone tells you that "Kroger sells better beaf," they probably also buy 1/2" cuts, and cook them well done. You don't need that type of influence in your life. Discontinue that friendship, and get yourself down to O'Brien's, where they treat you like family!

Wonderful place to get anything you need. I will drive out of my way any time to get specialty meats from this butcher shop. The owner and his son were very professional and made my experience as great as it possibly could be. The prime rib cuts and the bacon burger were phenomenal. Give them a shot and I guarantee you’ll enjoy every aspect of your experience.

I love being able to buy great coffee! A delightful, family-owned-and-operated local butcher, they also carry Counter Culture coffee, roasted to order, out of Durham, North Carolina. We only recently began purchasing their steaks to grill during the summer and they are just perfect. They also have a cafe space inside the store and a lunch menu including fresh sandwiches.

This is such a wonderful treasure in historic district of downtown Salem - a family owned butcher shop that has expanded to have a small cafe with outdoor seating along Main Street. We get a lot of our meat here, our coffee, and more. Their bacon burger is absolutely delicious. The staff are both knowledgeable and very, very friendly. Do your belly a favor and check this place out!

I ordered about 35 lbs of pork butt for an event I was catering. First of all, the product was beautiful. However, perhaps most importantly, the customer service is the best part about this establishment. From the moment you walk in, you know that everyone there is genuinely happy to see you. There really isn't anywhere else like this in the area and I am so very glad that I found it. O'Brien Meats is a gem in the Roanoke Valley.
