Pajaro Street Grill

Overpriced, bland, nothing like the pictures on their IG account, no longer serving sushi, and hours are off. Their busiest days are on taco Tuesdays, that says a lot about this place. You have to have an instagram account to check out their menu. Not even that, you have to have service on your phone to check their menu. The tacos aren't even 1 dollar, only the "street tacos" are a dollar...on taco tuesday. The taquero couldn't be bothered to serve the plate with one of each, we were told one plate had to have 3 tacos with only one type of meat. Basically the taquero didn't want to work that day. I missed the chance of going when it opened about a year ago, I'm pretty sure it would have been a totally different experience since everyone in Salinas were hyping this place up. At the end of the service, the guy in charge was pretty much asking for a tip... reminded me of Chinese restaurants. We ended up at about 100 dollars for 16 tacos! The drinks are basic and overpriced. The only magical part about the food was the fried tortilla and the added cheese (this is what made it expensive). The birria is whatever, there are hole in the wall places in Salinas that do a good job with cooking birria, and they actually use goat meat! There are plenty of other good taquerias in Salinas..I mean it is Salinas after all. So much for trying to support local businesses.

Maybe it's more of a personal issue than anything but this place doesn't have any personality. The food is good and the service is okay, I think the girl that helped us was new. But the atmosphere is rather bland and cold, it doesn't have any personality. I'm thinking because they are so new and a small business this could contribute to it, but they need to create a vision for the restaurant and add some decorations. I'm trying to decide whether or not I would come back.

Food is very tasty, service is good - but boy is it loud. We were there on a Thursday and they were getting ready for a band to set up for live music. It's more of a party atmosphere with tall tables and a jukebox playing music loud enough that you couldn't really talk over. They have something happening daily.

I had been looking for a local spot that carried Poke Bowls. This spot ended up being perfect as other people I know prefer the mexican food. Great variety of foods both Japanese style amd mexican. The drinks were really great as well. Ill def be back. Also the service was AMAZING. Never in the evening did I have an extra need for anything!
