Bexar Pub

Bexar Pub is a cozey bar near the downtown area. During my visit I dined on the Bexar Burger. This burger was a bit of a beast with two beef patties, pork belly, a fried egg, and cheese. The beef patties were jucey and flavorful lending a quite tasty base to the burger. The pork belly was not a single piece and the crispness of the pork meat and the jellyness of the pork fat felt a bit unbalanced on the burger. The beast would have still been good without the pork belly. I dined inside at the 6 seat bar. With the small space having the kitchen open to it, inside was a bit warm but not unbearable. As the location is going to get a facelift and I did not get to try the "hot" fried chicken I will pay the establishment another visit to see what the future vision holds. (This visit is right before the establishment was going to close down for renovations.)

If you like unimaginative food and clean dining then don’t come here. If you enjoy clever ideas for bar food and an environment that oozes Texas then come here. I’m jealous of this place and I want one in my neighborhood. Get the bear burger but fair warning...it is super rich. I had to cut each bite with some pickled peppers they had hiding behind the bar. Even better ask them to chop the peppers up and put it on top. It is not a clean eating burger. You will go through all of the napkins and knife and fork are not available. Great selection of beer is available and some truly unique cocktails. Get down here before it gets ruined by a travel channel spot.
