Embargo Grill

I ordered the Key West. It was very good. Comes with... Grilled, marinated chicken, yellow rice, black beans and curry sauce, topped with rum-soaked cranberries. Layered with chopped leafy greens greens and tomatoes. I requested plantain instead of the rum soaked cranberries. I also ordered chicken wings, which were very good and didn’t look like they were pumped with steroids. Food was very flavorful and different in comparison to my usual desire for Jamaican Caribbean food. I rated them four stars just because the ladies taking the order were not very helpful with explaining the menu (however one was new). I received more help from the cook who I found very hospitable. I would return because the food is good.

I have been here off and on for the past 5 years. The authentic Cuban style is a little too authentic for my taste. Cuba is a poor country, but this San Diego restaurant really should consider buying new plates. Great menu, good value. Wait staff are very accommodating but did not graduate from charm school. Then again, this could be part of its charm.

I discovered this place quite by accident. It's hidden away from all my usual routes, but when my first lunch choice was closed, I did a quick search and came upon Embargo Grill. And I am so thrilled I did! After nine visits, I can safely call this one of my favorite restaurants in town. On my most recent visit, the restaurant was packed, and just one server was working, but service was fantastic. And the food... So good! Every bite was delicious. We started with the mariquitos de platano and sangrias, I ordered the Key West, and he chose the picadillo chop. Both were packed with meat, greens, rice, beans, and so much flavor.
