Rusty’s Southern

This was not our first choice tonight. We were told to go to another place. The line was very long and we decided not to wait. We walked only 5 min away and found Rusty's. Why is there no line in this place. I will say seeing the country fried steak on the menu was my personal hook to get me in the door. We walked in and the place has character and was put together with love. A lovely young lady seated us. Melissa became our server and the dinner was off to a perfect start. Also when we came in I noticed they had biscuits so I had to try that out. As a chef who grew up in Oklahoma you know I can do a biscuit throw down at any moment. I will tell you Rusty did not let me down. Yes I ordered my country fried steak. Wow a place in California that doesn't think that is something you pull out of the freezer. The Brussel sprouts we're crisp and extremely delicious. The other plate we ordered was the BBQ Brisket. OMG that was a trip down memory lane. Just know you can only get that on Wednesday nights :-(. This was spot on and Extremely delicious. Melissa told us about all the other wonderful things we need to try. We are having a group of friends get together Friday night and guess where we will be going!!! Thank you Rusty and Melissa for giving us one of our new favorite places to eat in San Francisco. It is walking distance for us. We will save room for the banana putting on Friday night!!!!

One of my fav southern restaurants in SF downtown Rusty’s southern, serves Especially for Carolina style, Fried chicken made with Chicken thigh tastes more tender and juicy, perfect spicy. Grits is very comforting!!! What really makes this great is two condiments made based on family recipe!!! And hushpuppies is really good. I’ve never seen any Home-made sauce and seasoning so special and appetizing. Give it A try!!!

Oh my Lordy Lou this place is fantastic. Being from Virginia, I pride myself on some level of knowing good bbq when I taste it. SF doesn’t have many options. But this one takes the cake for the best overall experience, delicious southern food and spicy bloody marys. We were a large group easily accommodated at one of their larger communal tables. Literally everything we ordered was great, with the fried chicken sandwich being a knockout.

We had an amazing FEAST at Rusty's: Ribs (special of the day), fried chicken, mac n cheese, brussel sprouts, hush puppies, fried tomatoes and peach salad. The ribs were tender and smokey, the chicken was good but not the best I've had, and sprouts were my FAV. Service was great and Rusty himself was serving drinks at the bar - love seeing owners put in the elbow grease. Also, the free serving of steamed peanuts were surprisingly morish. Great atmosphere, highly recommended (though the streets outside the restaurant are a bit more rough).
