Capurro's Restaurant And Bar

Took my father and brother to SF for the first time and randomly came across this restaurant cause we were just walking. Absolutely great, the owner Paul, is a very nice man, God should give him an extra 100 years of life, it’s always a great pleasure coming across people like him. Some of the low stars reviews are because you order & pay at the bar (which is pretty much at the entrance so it’s convenient) , get a number, then sit and they bring the food to your table, which is much better, you don’t see any waitresses walking up and down, a lot of good decorations cause the majority is history of the restaurant that they’ve owned for 4 generations. Everything we ordered was 5/5, I highly recommend to try an Oyster.

Dining at this restaurant was a true revelation. The atmosphere was both sophisticated and inviting, creating the perfect setting for a memorable meal. The wine sauce had no wine and no salt so that was a bummer for my husband. They did substitute muscles instead of clams in the dish he ordered though. The fish and chips was really good. There really was no service we paid at the bar before the meal and there were no drink refills. I don't know if that's typical or the way it works.

Dinner here on a tourist visit to San Francisco. Less busy here than the places on Pier 39. No waitress service at the tables... you order at the bar and they give you a number for your table then bring your food out. No wait to order, but we were on the 5pm early side. Not a long wait for the food. Clam chowder was very good. Chicken fettuccine was very good, tasty creamy cheese, and the homemade pasta was fantastic. Seating was not crowded, but some big families with loud kids was a bit annoying. Expensive like the rest of this tourist trap area.

Experience was odd for what I thought was a high end seafood restaurant, but what I learned is Capurros was more like a European seaside shack with amazing food. You order at the counter, have a seat and they bring it to you, the choices where not extensive but every dish we had was spot on. Fish n Chips was cooked perfectly, the salmon wasn't fishy at all and had a floral favor and the grilled fish tacos was great. Chowder was very good but not the best in San Francisco, I would say the salmon and fish n chips was the best we had within 20 miles. Was cold enough you can see the steam come off the chowders.
