Very friendly staff. They were initially unsure about my wife’s guide dog, but once they understood her role and the importance of her service, they were very accommodating. It was the first time they experienced having a guide dog in the restaurant. The food was very tasty and it came out quickly. This was a recommendation from a few locals in the neighborhood and we are grateful for the suggestion.

If you are looking for a decent BBH(Bun Bo Hue) is SF, this is a spot. Truthfully, it isn’t the best I’ve ever had but it definitely hits the spot for the craving for a great price might I add. service is just as a normal mom & pop shop, so don’t expect too much!

Updated review 11/22/2023: Golden Star is the best Vietnamese restaurant in Chinatown! I used to come on a weekly basis back in the early 2000's through 2013 from Embarcadero Center 3, where I used to work. It was an awesome place to meet up with co-workers. The kitchen and service were always fast, you know for the 1 hour limit lunch break customers. Today we had two bowls of #1 house special pho $14, #25 imperial rolls (cha gio) full order $10, #32 Vietnames beef carpaccio (bo tai chanh) full order $15 and a seafood crispy noodles $17. One bit of sad news. The tall waiter no longer works here. The other waiter said he left for a hotel job. Service was excellent as always. Outdoor dining 5/3/2021. Indoor dining was not available. I'm so happy to see the same staff working here. We've been coming here since the early 2000's. The quality of the food and service remains the same. This was one of my favorite restaurants to eat at when I'm was working down by the Embarcaderos. It was such a treat to come here on Fridays. Food by the Embarcadero area is filled with boring hipster salads and sandwiches. Love this place!

Tasty food, served quick, and the price is right. Not a place for vegetarians. Lots of locals eating here that's a great sign.

No frills vietnamese restaurant in Chinatown, I ordered the Bun Bo Hue and it came with a perfect equal meat to noodle ratio, the broth was flavorful even though I prefer it a little spicer I just added some sriracha sauce and it was perfect. Service was good and food came out fast, would definitely come back to try other items.

No-frills Vietnamese eatery dishing out savory vietnamese noodle soups, imperial rolls, spring rolls and vermicelli noodle bowls to the local families of Chinatown and tourists looking for a good deal. Authentic flavors and big portions along with real Vietnamese coffee served out of a French press makes me love this place even more. Noted for authentic Vietnamese flavors, big portions and fair prices Family run so please tip kindly if you can!

Soup noodle with chicken leg also a fabulous dish, u won’t get bored of their taste, yummy. Ice coffee is full of aroma (its after taste different from other Vietnamese restaurants in neighborhood), nice to have! Their Vietnamese noodle is thinner and smoother than the others in Chinatown.

Four stars for Golden Star. I come here quite often when I’m in downtown and want noodles. Most recently, I got their #23 bun tom hue, their spicy shrimp soup noodle, $16.50. Lots of shrimp, decent broth that wasn’t that spicy, and awesome noodles that are thicker than usual. Card accepted!

Has been to this place several times already, before and after pandemic. Their food has maintained the same quantity and quality as before. Will always go back if I am craving for Pho

We were served the perfect pho: Clear flavorful broth, perfectly cooked rice noodles, razor thin sliced beef, and fresh savory herbs! It came out within a few minutes and we enjoyed a refreshing lemon soda with it. The price was super-affordable! Highly recommended.
