Both food and service were disappointing. We went for the SF restaurant week and had two $75 tasting menu. It was a bit overpriced as the set only had one entree, with two tiny sides, bread & salad.
The biggest issue was everything being too salty, from the bread, the fish, the beef, to the dessert. I couldn't even finish the salted vanilla ice cream because there was way too much sea salt.🧂 I actually liked how the dishes are designed and cooked. It's just the salty taste that ruined everything.
The server was not attentive at all. No one cared to refill your water or bring you your next course. Even if they fixed the taste of their food, I still wouldn't come back because of the poor service.
Btw, it's located in a very dangerous neighborhood. You wouldn't want to walk on the streets.

A quality experience. My husband and I went for dinner while passing through the city during our honeymoon and the chef, Jonathan, was amazing. He arranged a tasting menu to my strict dietary needs due to autoimmune disease, providing accommodations well beyond what restaurants typically bother to do. The meal was absolutely fantastic, which I can hardly ever say, given the extent of my dietary restrictions. To be able make such an excellent meal given those restrictions is a testament to his talent! We will definitely go back if we’re in the city again.

My friend and I had dined at Gibson a few times prior to the pandemic and we were generally pleased with the food, service, and ambience. This review will address our first intra-pandemic visit to this restaurant. Although I would have given Gibson 5 stars, based on the tasting menu, the wait staff, the location close to several downtown theaters, and our pre-pandemic experiences here, I am deeply disturbed by the lack of response of Gibson's management, a fact that completely overwhelmed my positive views of this restaurant. I waited three months before writing this review, in the hope that someone from Gibson would get back to me. I'm still waiting.
When I made a reservation for two at Gibson during SF Restaurant Week in Autumn 2021, I had to pay $20 per guest to hold the spot. No problem there. However, the reservation website indicated that this amount -- $40 total -- would be applied as a credit to our bill. Not only was the $40 not credited that evening, but I tried to reach the restaurant's management by phone 3 times in the subsequent two weeks and succeeded only in leaving voicemails, to which I never received a response.
While I fully understand that restaurants have been under enormous financial pressure during the pandemic, scamming customers with a "refundable" reservation charge that is never refunded and not returning your guests' calls about correcting this scam are unacceptable behaviors unworthy of an otherwise fine downtown SF restaurant.

This is the perfect restaurant for a pre-dinner show if you’re going to The Warfield, The Curran, or in our case the ACT. We had a 6pm dinner reservation and finished our 3 course prix fixe meal by 7:40 for a quick two block walk to The Geary Theatre.
The food, ambience, experience, and service were delightful. I couldn’t believe it wasn’t packed (Covid 😢), which is why I’m writing this review. This restaurant is attached to a boutique hotel and the ceilings are high and the tables are amply spaced. I felt very Covid safe even though we weren’t dining outside. This dining room is also perfect for a large party. They can accommodate large groups.
I’ve been to Per Se, Meadwood and other fine dining restaurants. I thought this was a perfect fine, casual restaurant with great food and service. Highly recommend. The homemade bread was also incredible, and I’m not a bread person!

Tasty fare and clever cocktails in a classy, mid-century inspired setting. Sit at the chef's table if it's available to watch the kitchen in action. We enjoyed the prawn and soup starters followed by roast chicken and risotto entrees. Very friendly and attentive wait staff and prompt food and beverage service. Surprised this place wasn't full on a Friday night...perhaps its Tenderloin address keeps folks away? Music program (modern funk) was at odds with the setting, but that's a minor quibble in an otherwise very enjoyable evening. Loved the deconstructed sundae for dessert (and it was perfect for sharing).

The service was amazing and the food was pretty good overall. The small plates were enjoyable to share, for the price we felt we had a great deal in SF. Would recommend if you want to try somewhere new with a lot of options.

Amazing food and very friendly wait staff. It was a really really long wait between two courses and we were waiting on liver mouse, so we weren't waiting on it to get made. Not sure if they were just short staffed or the large party was talking up the time, but I would have expected to have a little more attentive service for that price. It wasn't busy for a SF restaurant.
