Terroir

The bar is cool. We were there with a bunch of people for a birthday party. But on a Saturday night, they only had one person working there so it was a bit crazy. They ran out of glasses. Overall it was fun but not very organized. It felt like a house party where you pay all your drinks. And there are no other options beside snobby wine. The food was decent, pricey but good tasting.

This place is a favorite of mine in the area. Go during the early evening and you will have the terrific place to yourself for a nice book or conversation, later on in the evening when the lights turn on it's a bit more lively and real estate can be limited. Pros go upstairs to the loft for a cozy place to have a glass of natural white or red and relax. Note that it is designed so that there is no wine menu, whatever they have uncorked is what you can choose from, but they specialize in naturals. Let the staff guide you or ask for a flight and walk out with a bottle of whichever was the best.

The decor isn't going to wow you, but I'd have to say, the wine list was the most interesting I've seen in SF so far. Natural ferment, boutique producers from good wine growing regions. Sadly no Champagne on pour which seemed strange considering it is a French wine bar. I was told the wastage is an issue so I tried a Cava instead together with a Morgon and white Beaujolais. Salami was fantastic.
