Tai Kee Won Ton

My go-to place for sesame balls - crispy on the outside from the coating of gazillion fine sesame seeds, yet cooked through in its 3/8" thick chewy dough, and more than adequate red bean paste stuffing. Reheats well in the air fryer. Keep missing out on its Shrimp cheong fun. Will have to wake up early to join its legendary lines someday. The stuffed green pepper is very good, the stuffed eggplant was too greasy, but the shrimp stuffing was fresh-delicious on both, and easy on the tummy. Egg custard was delicious - tender but evenly COOKED through. Oh its warm soya milk feels good in my tummy (Chinese equivalent of hot chocolate on a cold day?) reminiscent of home and its hawkers on the other side of The Pacific. Not top of the line fare like HarborView Restaurant in SF but very satisfying for something within 15 minutes of home, without need for reservations, dressing up, topping up the gas tank etc.

People working here were terse, languid, and sullen. But I sort of get them, with the dividend of speaking their language. They did the work fast and right and was good to me. The Dim Sum items were quite good with large portion and reasonable price. The pork porridge with preserved aka century-old eggs (皮蛋瘦肉粥) was excellently cooked to perfection. The health benefits of these duck eggs would surprise you. I also recommend sesame ball, fried shrimp ball, and crystal chive dumpling. There were three sets of lunch menu to choose from at $12 including porridge and a few dum sums. They charged 3% surcharge to use credit card.

My go to casual take out dim sum bakery. My favorite is their bbq pork buns, both baked and steamed. The baked kind is done very well. Steamed kind sometimes has more fatty pork than I prefer, but the flavor and bread is on point. I also like their Their other dim sums are decent but not highest on my list but if you need a quick fix this place is well rounded. Be mindful of long lines on weekend late mornings. Don't be surprised if they run out of baked stuff after 1pm. Cash only so bring cash!
