A little slice of Japan, right here in the Bay Area. The owner is also your sushi chef, so you only get the best quality and service. Ask him about his favorite band, Kiss. Their non sushi items are excellent as well. I love their Katsu Curry. Always check the specials, as they always have unique items which change frequently. Don't waste money on those countless wannabe sushi joints that are all over the place, just pop into Yuzu for your little slice of real Japan.

Small place but welcoming atmosphere.
I arrived with my 2 young children. I heard the owner tell the server to remove the small plates for soy sauce where the children were placed (in japanese) 😂 Wise man
We ordered 2 lunch special: sushi and tempura. Sushi were good. They kindly asked whether we wanted the sushi with wasabi or not. Tempura were crunchy and with just the good amount of batter 👍
We also took a goma-ae side. The children loved it because it was sweeter than what I usually prepare at home.
I think it might be a nice place for a date dinner.
Warning: no stroller inside.

It's a very homey kind of sushi restaurant. A bit of a local gem. The seating is limited, around 3 two person tables and 3 four person tables with a 4 seat sushi bar. You'll wanna make a reservation if you arrive after 6, but come in early enough and you'll probably bag a seat. The quality of the sushi is above average, though pretty pricey for what you get.

Loved it!!! Food is so good, and feels even better when you see the wallet-friendly price. Recommend the seafood rice pot, omakase, and any hot appetizers.

My boyfriend is a regular here and he brought me. It was not disappointed. Yuzu is cozy and nice japanese restaurant in San mateo. Sashimi is always fresh and cooked dishes are also very good. I love grilled hamachi and salmon with fresh wasabi here. Please try that.
Also I love chef's kohada and uni sushi. I live in sf so,
I can't come to eat sashimi and grilled fish every day. I want to eat every time!!

Japanese Comfort Eats
I last visited Yuzu almost 11 years ago when I embarked on a quest to find the best Japanese chirashi bowl in the Bay Area [extra special Chirashi at Sushi Tomi/Tomi Sushi]
Now I returned to try more of their items and perhaps even discovering a gem or two
Yuzu, related to sister restaurant Sakae in Burlingame, is a quintessential neighborhood sushi spot
Casual, small, and low-key, they serve a variety of dishes beyond their sushi and sashimi menu. The daily specials is often where their best items can be found and I was sad to see their recommended curry absent and their miso tendon beef stew sold out
But this visit I was here for the Ishiyaki Hitsumamushi or Stone Bowl Seafood Rice. It’s a finishing dish so we ordered an assortment of appetizers and sushi to tide us over
Everything was solid with the hamachi Kama and the salmon lover’s nigiri of 5 types of salmon were particularly good
The stone pot arrives last and the rice is cooked to a crispy finish and mixed with cooked fish. You enjoy a bowl of the crispy rice and then a kettle of hot and flavorful dashi rice is poured on top making the ultimate Japanese comfort food chazuke
It is a satisfying end to the meal and the key to me about Yuzu is how hot (temperature-wise) everything is served. From the sizzling and crackling rice in the stone pot to the boiling dashi broth to even the simple hot tea, this is the temperature of how food is meant to be served
After over a year of takeout, it’s a small but poignant reminder how the simple pleasures in life can still bring joy even in the face of great change
📷 Ishiyaki Hitsumamushi $30 ~ Stone Bowl Seafood Rice with Finishing Dashi Broth / Hamachi Kama $18 / Ankimo $11 / Hotaru Ika Kimizu Sauce $13 / Chef’s Choice Special Nigiri $53 / Salmon Lover’s Nigiri $24 / Tuna Bone Marrow $10
