First time here after a recommendation from a friend. Sat at the bar and had excellent service from Gina. We tried the cod collar by her recommendation and it was fantastic. Also had the Katsu curry. Thanks Gina for the great customer experience and service! Highly recommend and we'll be coming back.

My new favorite in Seattle for Japanese food. Every dish is worth the price with the quality, taste, and portion sizes. Definitely try the black cod and mango kochi. I got the bar seat due to the crowd, but the hostess was generous and amazing. Book seat in advance!

Some of the tastiest non-sushi Japanese food I’ve had in many years. Everything looks prepared with care but still has that casual eatery vibe. The fried eggplants with miso sauce is the best of the night, and the miso grilled black cod collar is to die for. Definitely coming back for other dishes

Small restaurant with excellent sushi/sashimi and a broad selection of izakaya options, recommend their specials. Great service, such nice people You can't go wrong here, but remember to book as they are often full.

Fresh seafood and a beautiful atmosphere. I got to learn a bit of its glorious history while being waited at the bar. Arrive early for seating, or you will need to make a reservation. They are still recovering from the pandemic. Please support local.

The black cod collar miso and the unagi were absolutely fabulous. Sashimi was fresh too. Unagi was freshly made and took about 30min. The fish was very flavorful and the sauce was soaked in. It was the best unagi I had outside of Japan. The black cod collar was crispy outside and tender inside . Reservation is needed.

Makei you have won my heart 💙. I'm so glad we got to finally visit. Reservations were made in advance through text message. When we arrived there was already a line before the place opened. It appears to be a bunch of regulars that were lined up. Seating was prompt and the elderly lady was very nice. The food: - Black Cod Miso. I would highly recommend this dish if you love seafood. Such a great balance of mirin and miso in this entree. Very reasonable price for that portion. It does have bones so beware. - Chicken Karrage. I can't quite put my finger on the seasoning, but the batter was crispy and thin. I don't like when karrage is overly battered. It was accompanied with a nice generous serving of coleslaw. - Garlic Butter Squid. I would get this again. It was fresh, tender, also huge for an appetizer and super delicious. - Grilled Salt and Pepper Steak. This was ok, but I wouldn't order it again. It lacked flavor, but they did get the medium rare right. It's accompanied with a small side of miso soup, salad and sunomono. All were very flavorful - Unagi. Another dish I would highly recommend. Although it is suggested serving for two, I'm sure if you're extremely hungry and you love Unagi this can be demolished in a matter of minutes. It's fresh, delicious and not overly sweet. I love all the decor in this place along with the exceptional service from the staff.

I enjoyed the food here. Takoyaki was good. Rolls were okay, I liked the big mouth roll and spicy tuna. Sassy salmon was just okay and kinda sweet (not a fan of that). Steamed salmon in foil was amazing, definitely recommend getting that. Spicy cod karaage was decent only because of the sauce it came with, but not sure I'd get it again. Do not recommend chicken karaage as the pieces were large and dry. Tea was complimentary which was great, but was not refilled enough (imo they should have just given us 2 pots, our group kept running out). We were in the tatami room which was a super fun experience. One of the questions asked on the reservation criteria is what the dinner is for (e.g. anniversary/birthday). I wrote that we were celebrating my birthday and we reminded the server, but they did not do anything special or give any dessert or anything. I guess that's fine, but they should remove the question from their form if they don't do anything so customers don't get their hopes up :p Total after tip/tax was ~$27 per person for our group.

The best sushi/sashimi I had in Seattle, even better than the sushi I had at fine dining restaurants. We ordered the popular size sashimi for three people, which was generous portion considering the quality of the fish. Everything else we ordered were excellent as well, like the miso cod, squid, nabeyaki udon and unagi rice pot. Great service, drink menu as well. Making the reservation was easy via text. Highly recommend this place!

How could I not go to this famous spot. Was on a business trip and glad I stopped to grab a bite. Service was quick, staff friendly, and even the patrons were amazing. Met a nice guy named Simon who gave me a history lesson on the restaurant, the city, and drinks I should order. He was kind enough to buy me one. Overall an enjoyable night. I didn’t have a reservation so I sat at the bar. If you’re going with another person or group make sure you call and make reservations as it gets filled up quick.
