Nice place to spend some time to look at the art in Seattle!
Check with your employer to see if there are discounts on tickets!
Great place to get some steps in and appreciate the artwork. You can easily spend 1-2 hours here.
Not sure if there's a parking garage tied to the museum...otherwise, street parking or other garages nearby. The museum is walkable from Pike's. So you can definitely park closer to the market and knock two activties out with one go!

If you are going you have to make sure to find the Porcelain room, and the Italian room. If you don't look at a map it would be easy to just miss these. Don't!!!! The entire museum is amazing, but these 2 rooms make the museum unique. The feeling when you walk into each is different, but the Italian room, while sparse on art, the feeling of a different time and place take over and you slowly realize you are in a modern art museum but the room you are in is not that! And the Porcelain room is an amazing display of table settings. Enjoy!

Admittedly I’ve never met an art museum I didn’t love, this was no exception. The vast array of cultural exhibits is astounding. The layout is a little wonky and the online maps weren’t easy to discern but there were so many employees on the floor, questions were easily answered. It’s very close to Pikes Market so expect parking issues and crowds. If you don’t mind a little walk, the Amazon Dopple building offers FREE parking on weekend.

It's been awhile since I've visited the museum, but the Hokusai Exhibit was the main reason to finally pay a visit. This is one of the most impressive exhibits I have seen at this museum in a while. It covered a good portion of the top floor, exhibiting works not only from Hokusai and his students, but other artwork inspired by Hokusai.
Aside from this exhibit, the SAM ensures that works, workshops and lectures are curated and representative of diverse backgrounds. Admission is fairly priced, but come during a weekday if you plan to drive and find parking on the street. Parking garages are available nearby.

Great art gallery/museum! The building is more expansive than anticipated and the artifacts are well presented. Parking available underground and rates are reasonable on the weekend given that it’s downtown and walking distance to Pike Place Market. I was surprised to see some of the British Columbia First Nations Art here and felt sad knowing that these pieces do not belong in a museum but to their families and communities.

Absolutely loved my first visit to the SAM. The Calder: In Motion and the Hokusai exhibits were definitely worth checking out. I loved how art ranging back to a few hundred years old are just perched on the walls without glass cases. It’s amazing to be as near the art as we could be so we could take in the amazing details and precision of the artist’s work.

This is a very beautiful and interesting place to visit in Seattle. I bought the tickets on site and the staff was very gentle and friendly. They have very interesting discounts for seniors and students. I would recommend to start your visit on Floor #4 and then visit Floor #3. The exposition “Share your Story” was one of my favorites because you can interact with the art and be part of it. It made me feel part of the museum and the community. Keep in mind that the museum closes at 5pm, so if you want to visit the Gift Shop, reserve at least 15-20 minutes for that. I enjoyed this place very much.

What a fantastic museum with a good mix of art from many cultures such as American, Japanese, Egyptian, Native art, etc. One of my favorite sections was the African Art. I liked this section because the museum staff and the members from an African community worked together to provide an authentic exhibition. I was wowed by a lot of the work. It's two floors of art, so I wasn't overwhelmed. There was also a local artist exhibit. I spent 2 hours in the museum. This is a fee museum, but Bank of America credit card holders have free entry the first weekend of the month.

August 2023:
Great museum. The only exhibit that I would question is the room where people can scream at the top of their lungs 🫁. Was shockingly and surprisingly scary 😱.
I've been to museums in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Boston and other cities. Seattle offered a nice variety of exhibits.
If I lived here, I would definitely become a member. Thank you for a fun time.

Nothing to compete with the NewYork museums, however, it’s still the best art museum in Seattle. Good clean and spacious. They have a bit of everything but not too overwhelming which allows you to spend enough time appreciating each single display. 2-3 hours should be a good amount of time to complete a whole visit.
