Himitsu Teriyaki

A drastic downgrade in the menu while keeping the same price. I got my normal order of Beef Fried Rice, but it was $15 with very little meat and no egg. At least the portion was decently large. I'm not sure what changed, but I'll go to another teriyaki place next time. I don't recommend this place for the prices they charge.

I called in an order of chicken and gyōza for pickup. They didn't ask my name or give me a total but did say it would be ready in 10 minutes. I left soon and they are only a half mile away. When I get there the price was almost double what is on the menu shown online. The response was that it was a 3 year old menu and it wouldn't be that price anywhere now. I was in a low blood sugar mindset and didn't want to make a scene plus I didn't double check the price when I put in the order so I just paid and left. They get a little credit for having warm crisp gyōza. However, the chicken was horrible. It was luke warm at best and dry throughout to the point of being hard on the edges. Next time I want teriyaki chicken I know I am better off going to Panda Express. Even they don't let it sit out in the heat until it's dried out.

I loved this place and the big, warm smile from Mama-san. The atmosphere was definitely old country. (Bet you can try out your old, rusty Japanese and feel ten years younger - maybe more?) Take out business was strong but you might need the subtle gentleness of the place more than something to eat. The chow was fabulous; I wore out my wife's patience by bedtime, raving about it. Generous portions. There is no end of teriyaki in Seattle (or just about any other ethnic food) but I felt at home here and the quality of the chow still makes me smile. I really wish they weren't 500 miles away.
