If you enjoy authentic Japanese cooking (not that fusion stuff), Setsuna is the place to go if you’re in the Northgate area. The location is somewhat hidden and easy to miss unless you’re looking for it. If you’re just driving or walking by, the exterior is deceptively low-keyed.
Whenever I go there, there are always elderly Japanese eating dinner. The food that they serve does remind me of the Japanese food that my mother cooked when we lived in Japan.
My only gripe about Setsuna is that it isn’t open for lunch. I’d eat there more frequently if it was open for lunch, but it does stays open until midnight (2:00 am on Friday and Saturday). After a late night movie or ballgame, I always seem to be craving for ramen and the ramen at Setsuna is some of the best in Seattle.

The bar staff were very friendly and the izakaya type food was pretty good. I always liked the soy sauce butter fries and karaage.

I've only been to the bar, but the food and staff are great! Fun place to drink and sing karaoke.
