Din Tai Fung

It was frankly a disappointing experience. I know for a fact that DTF is very well loved, as such, I had some expectations before dining. Sad to say that none of the expectations were met. I’m thankful for the queue system which resulted in a shorter waiting time. Food was promptly prepared too. In this regard, well done. What was disappointing was the food. Everything that came was subpar. The pork chop was passable but not stunning. My table ordered a total of 3 portions of fried rice and none came well done. They were either too mushy or too oily. What was consistent was the lack of flavour and wok hei in the rice. The XLB was pitiable, with the soup in multiple pieces all dried up. 红油抄手 was bang on average for a Chinese specialty restaurant. The prawn pancake was the only saving grace for the meal. Here’s how I’ll summarise my experience here - I get much better (and cheaper) food from my neighbourhood zi char stall.

Have visited & reviewed a few Din Tai Fung outlets in Singapore and all were deserving of 5 star ⭐️ Today we ordered the usual dishes too and all were 5 stars except the Kailan, which was disappointing not because of the quality but the quantity. Only 7 strands of stalks which were really small for the price of $12. Definitely very expensive for a small plate of boiled vegetables….. Hope the management can look into this & increase the quantity.

Located at level 2 of Tampines Mall. Do expect a queue during meal times, if during pre-Covid period, will need to queue for at least an hour to enter. Now is less than 30 mins to enter. Food wise, was good. Quite standardised for all of its restaurants. The services and attentiveness from the staffs were good, in fact, excellent. The xiao long bao is a must have, at all times. Yummy, with the ginger and vinegar combined. Good experience always!

It has been a while since we last ate lunch at Ding Tai Fung Tampines Mall as the queue doesn’t seem to end… This morning we made effort to be there earlier than 11am so after 20 mins of queue we finally gotten in & seated comfortably while the long queue started to form outside :-) Like quite a number of F&B business, Ding Tai Fung also adopted the “order thru Q R code” model but payment is still at the counter. From ordering to servicing of food, very fast and efficient. The food especially the Fried Rice with Pork Chop & Xiao Long Bao are still as good! I love the cucumber as it is so appetizing! If not for the queue I would have visited even more often :-)
