Pickle Barrel

Seemed to want me to tip for them to work... I looked on Grub Hub, and I thought the subs were in the $8 range... got to the store, and the prices are in the $11 range... The prices aren't even listed on their signs. I tipped $1, but apparently that wasn't enough because my cheesesteak seemed kind of empty... not impressed with what I thought was going to be a large quantity of food. Not sure if the it's the economic environment, but I don't have the money to suddenly pay $5 more than I thought it would cost with the sub and a $2 tip when I was expecting to spend $8-$9 for a big sub. The sub was decent, but I'm not impressed with the quantity of food (not nearly as big or cheesy as it looks on the website). I probably won't be back.

Welcome to Josh's adventures in Sioux Falls: I wanted a sub sandwhich for lunch cuz they rock. I reseached some local places. Discovered one called "The Pickle Barrel" I went there, and their menu was pretty simple. It was decently busy so I didn't look too hard and made a snap decision. They had one called "Ken's special" sure sounds good. Lots of veggies and turkey, cheese , pepperoni. The cashier asked if I wanted a half or whole sandwhich. Thinking it would be like..6 inches or a footlong, I elected for the full size The cashier goes " Oh wow, you sure?" Well , yes of course I'm sure. I make it a combo with soup and a drink as you do Grab a few pickles from the bucket as their name implies (they were awesome). I sit down and see other people get their sandwhiches and they are wrapped in the deli paper. Then my name gets called and the guy is holding a brown lunch bag with two hands. I go and grab it and its like..5lbs What have I done? Appereantly a whole sandwhich is like 20 inches of sandwhich and not only is it 20 inches of sandwhich. ITS LOADED. like the menu says "veggies, cheese, meat" but they clearly don't tell you JUST HOW MUCH they use. The bread could barely contain everything. Thankfully it was wrapped as 2 different sandwhiches. I looked back and the sizes were on a different picture below the menu that I had CLEARLY missed so needless to say, I have lunch for the next day or so. I was prepared for a battle, but not war.

I drive for 8 hours, every 6 months or so. Specifically to buy these subs. The big sky is my favorite, but they're all great. I hope this place lasts forever and you should check it out. Edit: Don't let the price on my review scare you, I buy extra and bring some back to town for friends. This place is very reasonably priced for the quality and portion size.

My personal favorite, the chicken bleu streaker, may be the best sandwich in Sioux Falls. It's chicken, onions, mushrooms and a bleu cheese sauce served warm on a delightful roll. My wife's favorites are Big Sky or Bobcat.... both are equally as delicious and stuffed with lots of meat. Pickle Barrel prices may seem a bit high for a sandwich... but they are so worth every penny. And, don't forget, the barrel of pickles situated right by the ordering counter.
