Campo

My boyfriend and I decided to try Campo on an impromptu date night not too far from home. We've tried Campo by the river before but not this location. We started with bread and cocktails (Kentucky Mule and the Bee's Knees which featured local honey) and they were quite tasty. For our entrees we ordered the Shrimp Florentine and the Basil Crusted Salmon with Balsamic Glazed Wild Mushrooms. The mushrooms were tasty but we recommend them with a steak or possibly the spaghetti and meatballs rather than the seafood. We enjoyed the florentine however we were blown away by the salmon. The salmon was cooked to ABSOLUTE PERFECTION and even if it had been a bit dry the sauce had been to die for. We could not have asked for a better cooked piece of salmon ever.

The service was perfect, but their breakfast menu is lacking. I ordered the huevos rancheros and I was blown away by how much it was lacking in any sort of flavor. Both the pork chunks and potatoes were literally flavorless and to make the meal even better, the potatoes were so undercooked they were hard. I would have given less stars, but Ive been here for dinner before and it was wonderful. However, if the food continues on this path I can say for sure we won't be back.

Campo needs to work on food AND service. We arrive mid afternoon for a late lunch at the bar and the restaurant was silent which felt very odd, especially for a place this size. Since there was no music or TV noise you could hear all the talking and bickering from the kitchen. It really killed the vibe. I’ve got more ambiance inside my house! Our spinach dip arrived cold and even once reheated it tasted more like some Campbell’s cream of something soup, bleh. During our meal the bartender opened the doors to try and air out the smokey smell on a freezing cold day and made no effort to see if that bothered any of us at the bar. Finally another patron told her she was freezing and she shut the doors herself. No apology from the bartender. Campo was a good restaurant when it first opened downtown, now you can’t get good food, service or ambiance. Why go?

Food is mediocre, poor if you consider the prices. There are almost 100 taps on the wall but only about 15 of them are active. The service is absolutely atrocious, and this rating is given after multiple chances/visits. Lots of far better restaurants out there with superior food and service at this price point.

We used to enjoy going to Campo in Sparks. A few months ago we went on a Monday night and many menu items were "sold out" we hadn't been back till tonight. Bread was delivered to our table was stale. We ordered a pizza and a hamburger - nothing special. It took about a hour. The pizza was fair. I ordered a hamburger - no cheese and well done and fries. The burger arrived with cheese and when I cut into it, the burger was almost raw and the fries were so hard I didn't eat them. I guess we are done. What a shame.
