Garden Buffet

Stopped here in St George & chose Garden Buffet because of the star reviews! We arrived at about 2pm which was perfect because there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. Maybe three other families. Waitress was awesome & friendly. Kept our drinks filled and plates cleared from our table. Food was not bad! I’ve definitely had better buffets, but for a quick stop and craving Chinese, this was a good choice. 👍🏽 Restaurant was clean & so were the restrooms. There were quit a few good choices that were missing and in the 45mins we were there were not refilled. The other options that were available had great flavor. Checkout is was were the stars started to really fall for me. Waitress did not bring us a bill. I noticed the two other families that left had to go to the counter to pay as well. One couple almost left without paying because the checkout/welcome guy was MIA. Anyways, we had a party of 4 & noticed a gratuity charge on my receipt, PLUS an extra option to add a gratuity (10%, 15%, 20%, 25%) on TOP of that total. We left a tip on the table because again, the waitress didn’t bring us a bill and we had to go to the counter to pay. No big deal. I noticed the other tables had to do the same thing. I looked down on my receipt and saw a gratuity charge. Now, I am in no way saying to not tip. I’m actually a pretty generous tipper! But, I just think it’s pretty shady. That 1) no receipt is brought to the customer so customer will most likely leave a tip (considering they brought cash). 2) Customer then pays at the counter and if you’re not paying attention is being charged for a gratuity automatically without being told you’re being charged a gratify for your party of 4. Just beware & check your receipt! I could even see how easily a 3rd tip might’ve been added if you’re not paying close attention. If you didn’t leave cash on the table + auto gratuity, one would circle an additional tip thinking that was the only tip. In both instances Garden Buffet is getting double tipped. Just shady & not a good way to run business in my opinion. Every restaurant I’ve been to that has added an auto gratuity (mainly due to party size, and usually it’s 6+) usually is very transparent. Not these guys. So while the food was decent, the shadyness lost the stars for me!

Very nice buffet style restaurant. They have a good selection.( Sushi, Veggie rolls, Orange chicken, Rice, Salmon, Chow Mein, Beef Broccoli, Mongolian Barbecue and so on.) I really liked that the food was fresh and they kept switching the bowls out with new ones. Not like some place where they just put the new on top of the old ,and then mix it. The Staff are very Friendly and Attentive from the time you get there, till you leave.

Recommend avoidance of this restaurant. I last went 8 yrs ago and it was decent. This visit at 730pm on a Friday night was terrible. Food was lukewarm, coconut shrimp was a cold gooey glob. Sushi limited and not as good as grocery store sushi. Apple turnover had uncooked dough. Should’ve gone to frozen section of Costco.
