Piccino

Produce used was great quality and everything tasted great! They have seating at the front and back indoors, as well as an outdoor courtyard. Lots of options to choose from, breakfast items, pasta and fish etc. Coffee strength was good! But they over do the frothing of alternative milks and curdles a little. Over all great experience will come again

Some hits and a few more misses today at Piccino. We’ve driven past this little cafe hundred of times but today decided to call in. The inside space was fully booked which was a good sign so we settled on the rear courtyard which was pleasant and a little bit tucked away. Unfortunately the courtyard so out of sight that we were well and truely forgotten about and after waiting for a while I ended up having to go back up front to check whether it was a table service or counter service cafe. It was table service just without much service. KD unfortunately chose a chair that looked dry but when she sat on it got her jeans completely soaked through with water so was uncomfortable from the get go. We ordered coffees and an item of the brunch and lunch menu. Coffee came after our meals only after we inquired and these were actually very tasty although the acidic nature of the blend being used split the almond milk of our strong almond latte. Haven’t seen this happen with milk lab almond milk before. KD had the breakfast bruschetta and raved about the freshness of this dish. Funny how good quality fresh ingredients can make such a difference to the taste of menu items. I ended up choosing the gnocchi with duck ragu from the specials board. I had assumed it would have been a potato gnocchi but it ended up being semolina. I think if gnocchi isn’t made from potato it needs to be called out on the menu because I generally steer clear or ricotta and semolina gnocchi. That said it wasn’t as bad as I’ve had elsewhere although still quite stodgy. The duck ragu was tasty but a little too salty for my tastes. We finished off our meal with a basque cheesecake which was absolutely delicious and exactly what we wanted. Many of the other cabinet cakes and sweets also looked amazing. Really would have liked to have been able to give a higher score as staff seemed really friendly and perhaps the service we encountered today was a result of coming out of two week of lockdowns and taking a little time to fire up again.
