The Doss House

Booked a group of 4 guests for 630pm. Upon arrival was asked to wait until they prepared our table. We were placed at a table on stools and left menus. Whilst waiting for our friend to join us we noticed that the venue uses the me&u app. (Please note that you have to download the app to use AND it doesn't work on all phones.) Upon using the app, we noticed that many of the food items were not available to order. We decided to hail down a staff member to ask... He was unaware of why and went to check. He came back to advise us that he wasn't sure if the suppliers didn't deliver the menu items OR they didn't get the kitchen prep done in time. As we were hungry and thirsty we just ordered something to get our night underway. Moments after ordering the waiter returned with credit card machine wishing us to pay. We asked if we could run a bar tab, he advised that we prefer to pay as you go. We attempted to order more food via the app, however on this occasion all food was not available. We asked the waiter and he said because the kitchen is busy there is a 40 minute wait. We then decided to finish our drinks and leave. At around 815pm the maitre d came over and said that we needed to vacate our table as another booking is due. She mentioned that if we wanted to stay, she could try and find a spot for us to sit elsewhere. We decided to leave. Upon departure we were stopped by the staff to ask us to pay our bill...... We said we already paid upon ordering and they were incorrect. Overview... Quirky bar in a historic building. Interesting drink selection Very poor service Even if you have a booking you are not valued or explained how to order etc.... Food was basic and unimpressive. Thanks...but no thanks.

If you are around Circular Quay, the Doss House is a decent casual whiskey bar to visit. The decor is nice cosy and the garden is also quite pretty at night. Personally, the music was a bit loud for my enjoyment, but I think it's more for the younger cohort. The prices were competitive for the location. However, I was disappointed that there wasn't any stock for 4 of the 5 Whisky selections which we requested. Probably better for mixed cocktails.

Fantastic knowledge and service from the lovely London. We visited twice on the one weekend, the second time returning with a Celtic-French friend where we were unexpectedly greeted with live Irish music on the Sunday afternoon which took him back to the mother country. Next time we are in Sydney we'll be back for more delicious whiskey.

New to town and absolutely love this place! You cannot beat the vibe and intimate feel, highly recommend visiting on a Sunday night when they have live Irish music. Been back a few times in a matter of a weeks because the people are incredibly kind and welcoming (oh… the drinks are also pretty amazing 😉). Special shout-out to Brock and Mikey!
