Flour And Stone

We have been long time customers and so with a week off I sent my husband for some afternoon tea and a sandwich to share. The result was disappointing, one piece of cake was so small that it looked life half a slice and the sandwich had barely a few pieces of chicken, mainly bread and greens! We used to be able to share a serve between us both but this wasn’t the case today. I love supporting the smaller businesses and appreciate the difficulty and cost of supplies. We felt that the quality of sandwich has slipped and sizes are considerably smaller. The cakes of course did taste delicious, but it’s no longer good value for money and we are too spoilt for choice elsewhere to return in any hurry…

Came here to try some of the patisserie and were not disappointed. It’s a small store from the street but can be easily spotted thanks to a queue in front. The pana cotta lamingtons were fluffy, delicate and full of flavour. The salted caramel tart was a big hit too. Definitely worth the wait. There’s a couple of tables and chairs further up the street to sit down and enjoy the treats. Have bookmarked to return when in Sydney.

Long wait for take away but the food was delicious. The coffee is not great, probably won’t order it next time. Although the lamington is the most expensive I’ve ever tried, it’s the most moist and we always order it when we come here. The centre is filled with jam and it’s so worth the trip. The ham and cheese sandwich is hella great as well, I think they use Gruyère! Also the brûlée tart reminds me of the one by Bourke Street Bakery, it’s so delicious! We come here once a year!

Finish my day in the city with a nice cup of Decaf soy latte with a Vanilla Slice. Light flaky layers of puff pastry with brown sugar pastry cream and the freshest of raspberries. Is not overly sweet. It gives a nice balance taste, I enjoyed it very much. Missed out on the croissant again. Maybe next time.

Gorgeous, scrumptious pastries; we tried the Rhubarb and Ginger Crème Brûlée- super luscious, gingery, crispy and yum- and also the Madeleine- sharp, sweet & orange-y. We need to return to try one of their famous Canelés (baked custard) which had sold out by 11:30am! Clearly v popular. Keep up the great work guys 👍🏻👍🏻
