Petrol Restaurant

Wandering around looking for food on a busy Potts Point Saturday night, we came across this beautifully decorated outdoor restaurant. The setting is reminiscent of European restaurants in summer, with cushioned booths and naked dangling light bulbs. While we were initially hesitant about the Euro-Middle Eastern-Asian fusion, we were pleasantly surprised but how well executed it was. The dumplings here are fantastic, and the accompanying sauces were well thought out. My partner's chorizo paella was delicious, as was my more adventurous salmon and seaweed risotto. The service was attentive and fast too.

Pretty average, if given the choice again I would go elsewhere. The food wasn't inherently bad, just tasteless. We started with the chicken souvlaki, nothing special but nothing different from the local take away for 3 bucks a piece. I had the prawn and scallop dumplings, pretty sure they were frozen, no discernible flavour, texturally it was all the same, really disappointed. For the Mains, my partner and I both had the pulled pork risotto.......I hate to keep on a theme here but the meat could have been from any animal.....chicken, beef whatever...... it's hard to make a risotto that bland. Dessert: my partner and I shared a "dark chocolate pudding" It was pudding, not dark chocolate but to be fair quite delicious. All in all, I won't be back, ever.

Pretty Terrible experience here all around.I live next door to the restaurant and have had a bad experience there before. I hoped that it would have gotten better though because its next door. It started when we ordered ICE water. We asked three times for Ice before finally receiving it 30 minutes in to the meal. That worked out just fine however because the Meat Sampler platter (Literally 4 tiny piles of meat with 2 bread sticks) took 50 minutes to get out. The sampler came out 3 minutes before the Main and that was only because we reminded them. For context of how bad this service was, there was one other table in the restaurant when we started- It wasn't crowded. The most redeeming part of the meal was the Kangaroo- which was pretty bland at best.
