I could tell by our first visit that we would be visiting this place many MANY more times. We were greeted by a lovely gentleman who we later found out was the owners father. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table (Labour Day weekend), but it was worth the wait.
The Hotcakes with Maple and Bacon ice cream were AMAZING. The Spanish Eggs were delicious accompanied by some awesome spicy sausage. Love this place. Great addition to the neighbourhood!

not only do these guys serve up great food and perfect coffees, they are also an ultra-friendly and fun bunch too
I live locally, and I just cannot spend a single day without a visit to their shop
I recommend the coffee (of course), affogato, home-made bacon ice-cream! (yes I said bacon!) and the ultra-tasty cowbell burger.
just a tip though, if you order a or burger, it's best to let them know how you like it, there have been negative remarks from customers because they didn't expect it to be cooked below their expectations
from personal experience, the staff are keen to satisfy, if you have any comments, let them know - at the time

My mob met up with another mob of friends for brunch here yesterday. It was fantastic.
I'm not bothered by the hipper-than-thou vibe of trendy Surry Hills spots so long as they deliver on their prime purpose: drinks for bars, and food for restaurants. So go ahead and name your brunch spot after a landmark '80s drum machine. Just make sure you deliver the tasty goods.
The 5-star rating should be the tip-off: they did.
First: getting in was a bit of a feat. Between us we were four adults, two kids, and a baby. Cowbell 808 isn't that big, just a dozen or so crowded little tables and wobbly iron chairs, with barely enough room for the embattled servers to squeeze around. But the brunch gods were smiling and we nabbed two adjacent tables from a group that were leaving.
Everyone's food was amazing. But bring your appetite, and don't be afraid of a bit of grease. I had the baked eggs with sausage: creamy, spicy, and intense. Another person had the vegetarian version with eggplant and kale. My partner had the lamb toastie; I had a bit and it blew my slow-cooked rosemary-flavoured mind. I could feel the yummy, oily calories settling in.
The food came quicker than I expected given the packed crowd (but not all at once). The service was friendlier than I expected too, right from the order-taking to the service to checking on where our food was to paying the bill.
Trendy + service + delivers the taste = champion.

Went on a groupin which made food cheaper and probably my review nicer. Disappointed my ice cream was not bacon flavoured, but my ricotta pancakes were quiet good. So was the coffee. The cafe itself is cute and the staff was nice.

Love the kitschy decor of the place, it's very hip hop 80s style and the staff are super friendly! I had the eggplant wrap which was delicious, great vegetarian option. And the jaffa milkshake was quite good too.

The worst breakfast ever! We got the baked eggs which actually tasted like curry (I don't mind, I mean I love a curry) but this tasted dirty. Also the eggs were soooo baked and dried that you couldn't cut through them. The sausage was supposed to be a spicy beef but didn't tastw like beef, nor was spicy. As well there were white sausages which wouldve been chicken but not stated on the menu. At least they didn't screw up toasting the sourdough on the side.
We ordered the famous ricotta pancakes which were ok and fluffy but they don't come with the bacon ice cream, just vanilla.
Save yourself yhe hassle in going and head up the road to Bourke street bakery. I never am one to write a review but this place really got to me!

Cool 80's decor, friendly service, great burgers and awesome onion rings! Went on around 1:30pm on Saturday and didn't have to wait very long for a table. Mocha coffee was loaded with yummy chocolate. Decent value for money and free street parking available.

Gotta love Cowbell 808.
This place has a trendy vibe, cool staff providing great service, and is owned by a sweet little old couple, who you'll see getting around the place.
Good coffee, good food (especially the baked eggs), and AMAZING prices! Surry Hills cafes typically like to charge you extra for being in the trendy part of Sydney, but Cowbell 808 is a refreshing change to this culture.
I've since moved away from Surry Hills, but will definitely be revisiting Cowbell 808 on my next excursion back to the area.
The only trouble: it's ALWAYS packed
