The Chippo Hotel

Came back here on invitation from Chippo after a mediocre meal we had a month ago and we were pleasantly surprised. I ordered a chicken parma and my partner ordered a gluten free eggplant parma. The eggplant parma was delicious - well seasoned (had a bit of heat!), well cooked, generous, and delivered to the table with extra care to ensure that it was safe for her (she is coeliac). Apparently Chippo has hired new chefs and they really delivered. Also the waitstaff and service was great. We live in the area and can definitely see ourselves coming back here

MISSY THE CAT RETURNS! The Chippo's been better in the past, and can do better again with a bit of effort. First, the good: it's still a brilliant location, and the bird looking after us on a quiet mid-day mid-week visit was as kind, friendly, enthusiastic and helpful as one could ever hope for. Onya! With staff so good, one can fix the bad. Speaking of which, The Chippo's increasingly dirty and run down. The toilets are simply appalling. SAD. I'd encourage the owners to give the place a bit of investment and a lot of tough love. My partner and I recently had a great meal together here - and that is an unusual thing for a neighbourhood pub because I’m coeliac! They offer a well-labelled menu; I tried the gf version of the eggplant parm which was one of the better meals out that I’ve had in ages. Depth of flavour, expertly cooked eggplant, and huge portion, and a kind member of waitstaff who triple checked with me that everything would be safe for me when they dropped it off to our table. A+.

Updated 12/07/22 Re-reviewing to be fair to current staff: - Chippo is still my favourite pub for a chill beer after work, and when the fire pit is lit it’s extra awesome. The bar staff (& managers) are awesome and so funny. My only complaints are the beer choices (please bring back balter xpa!) and I’m still a bit sad about the decimation of the pool comp.

I’ve been visiting this pub regularly for its pool comps every Wednesday over the last 2 years. I won’t be going back again after they suddenly changed the prize without telling any of us until the end of the comp. Very poor form! I was also told by the guy that volunteers to run the comp that the pub stiffed him and refused to give him his normal 2 beer vouchers for his effort. Disgraceful! We don’t deserve this shabby treatment and will be voting with our feet. After all, the Sneaky Possum is only across the road
