Sir Allen Taylor & Co

Located in the iconic corner of Flinders and Oxford streets, Sir Allen Taylor is a cafe by day and bar when the sun goes down. We sampled the all day menu. Ben Sweeten from Kansas City Shuffle and Tuxedo fame, has brought over the mighty fine smoked beef brisket on waffle from KCS. I also sampled a Medley of Mushrooms that not only looking refined and divine, it tasted just as good! Coffee is great, the fit-out bright and airy, and service warm and welcoming.

Great concept and location. Great place to sit and people watch. Would like the menu to be a little better and the wine list needs reviewing. More staff is always good but understand cost. Could become great last action but needs work. Also need to think about music and maybe some singer/songwriter type entertainment. Good for late after drink.

Disappointing at best! Dropped in for some lunch and a cocktail today with my wife (Sunday session) after being recommended the place. Seemed WAY too busy for the one person behind the bar to handle (only 2:30pm and not really that busy at all) sat at our table for a long while wondering if we should order at the bar or wait to order at the table. After sitting for a while longer being ignored by the staff decided to try ordering at the bar and was told to wait till the bar person had finished making the current order. Finally, got our order in hoping the cocktails and food would make up for it... was a little shocked at the cost of 2 cocktails and a couple of burgers ($70) but again was recommended this place based on 'the amazing cocktails they have there' so figured all would be redeemed. The cocktails took a while to come and I'd love to say they were amazing but sadly it seems the person making them forgot to add the vital ingredient... alcohol! The food was OK but thanks to the shocking service its not enough to get me back. It's a shame because I think if this place had the extra staff required to have table service and were a bit more attentive it would be a fantastic place to go... I also wouldn't mind paying a bit extra. Sadly for them, there are a lot of other places in Sydney that do have this right. There is a bit of work to be done here before the reach that level of service and experience!

Staff are non-communicative, rude and lack any care for customers. The coffee very ordinary. I ordered a coffee and a drink at 2.55pm to experience within 10 minutes the staff rapidly packing all the furniture around me without even letting me know what was happening - very disturbing! I spoke to one of the staff members in the presence of the management team advising I was not told that you are closing up despite ordering drinks to have in and it is uncomfortable to finish the drinks. I was told they will take it on board in future. No real genuine care. Terrible experience. Drinks left unfinished.

Went for lunch here this afternoon, if I could give a 0 rating I would. Had to wait 50mins for less than average greasy food which was overpriced. The Food and experience was awful is saved by it's location. Staff are clueless and overcharged us $20 on our meal. There are so many better food options along Oxford Street...
