Johnny's Mexican Food

UPDATE Returned today and tried a shredded beef California burrito and a chile relleno/pork burrito. The California was really special and I’d return for it any day. The hot crispy French fries melded just right with the beef and cheese. The other burrito was solid but the pork was quite bland. Customer service was interesting. The young woman at the window seemed like she’d rather be doing something else on a beautiful Saturday morning. ____________________________________ $10 for a slender Johnny’s original burrito (shredded beef in chile colorado red sauce with cheese) made me gasp a bit as they were perhaps half that price the last time I ate here 25 yrs ago. The flavors are pretty good, but frankly I grew bored with the flavor and texture after 3 or four bites, even with the addition of their decent salsa. I think beans and rice would round out the extreme meatiness of the soft, shredded beef. Next time I’ll try the crunchy tacos that other reviewers recommend. After I got my food I noticed the line was maybe ten deep at around 12:00.

On the way back from spending the night in Ventura with some friends, Carms and I stopped off at Johnny's. Boy were we lucky because right after we ordered, 10 people rolled up placing orders. I had their Ojai Burrito with chicken and had it Wet. It was bomb! Carms had a loaded Quesodilla which was great. Lastly, I ordered some chips and salsa, and they asked me for flower or corn! I recommend the flower and their salsa is terrific! If your near the area, stop by and order something.

Since 1980 I have been ordering the Original Red Shredded Beef & Cheese Burrito. The tacos are the best hard shell tacos anywhere in the world. Yes WORLD! I have to thank Johnny's for the last 30 years of great food & all the best of memories. I'ts funny we get calls from Ojai, & Oak View to deliver Johnny's to them. All the way to Ojai. They don't seem to care what the cost is to deliver. We have delivered all the way to Westlake Village.When people want there Johnny's......i'ts That Good!
