Tesoro

Came to DC with my wife on a trip and we were craving authentic Italian like what we had in Rome 2 years previously. I was delighted to see that Tesoros served a dish that I fell in love with.. Spaghetti Amatriciana. I tried it and I can honestly say it was just like Rome!!! The sauce was unbelievable!!! And the pancetta was cooked with just the right touch. It was an unforgettable meal and extremely reasonably priced considering the quality.

Our neighborhood is lucky to have this Italian Treasure right in our own yard. Every visit to Tesoro is a lovely outing -- from the warmth and hospitality of the owners and service staff, to the delicious refreshing cocktails (try the Negroni Sbagliato!), to fresh, delicious homemade plates, including but certainly not limited to scrumptious pizza -- my most favorite in DC. The ambiance is warm and casual and the service is friendly and well-paced. I am always grateful how accommodating Tesoro is of my little ones on the patio -- making this our neighborhood go-to any night of the week. If you find yourself in the area, don't miss out on this authentic, comfortable, hospitable gem of a restaurant!

The food is amazing! Fresh ingredients, everything is high-quality! When you eat here, you’re actually eating gourmet-level cuisine in disguise. This is how you really eat in Italy; this is true, authentic ITALIAN food! This is not Italian-American food, but again not everyone knows the difference! What’s also great is the feeling of family, the treatment from staff and management/owners is one of a kind and makes you feel at home! The negative reviews don’t reflect the true quality of the place at all. I highly recommend Tesoro Trattoria & Pizzeria! If you go you have to try the Polpo Arrostito (grilled octopus), the Orecchiette con Cime Di Rapa (traditional Pugliese pasta dish), if you like white wine try the Falanghina and if you like red go for the Zorzettig! And of course don’t leave without having a shot of Limoncello! I hope you enjoy the experience and if you tried one of my recommendations , you will thank me .😉

A gamble that paid off immensely! We are visiting the area- know nothing but what we google as we were in search of dinner- we wandered past this place twice, wondering if we should or shouldn’t try it- and OMG!So glad we did! The food was rustic and delicious, so fresh and layers of delightful flavor. Service was on spot and so polite, unobtrusive, yet completely attentive. I can not tell you how delighted and happy we are with this choice to try eating here! If you want perfect proportions, quality food, great prices, and outstanding service- check out this spot! I am so happy we gave it a shot and I am dying to see how many more amazing things come from the kitchen of the new owner

Excellent customer service. The food taste very delicious. I will definitely come back again when I’m in town. My daughter and I enjoyed our food and the ambiance is very welcoming. Our waiter was very friendly and he made sure we were satisfied and knowledgeable about the menu the manger was also very friendly. Excellent place to eat.

So I HAD to have the lasagna, and let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed!! 😋 Smothered in some of the most delicious Italian gravy I've had since Maggiano's 😍 I was literally sad (seriously was) that I ate so many of the phenomenally good bread sticks, and needed to take half home in a doggy bag! I wanted to eat it all! Great little place. I stopped there out of convenience when I was staying at the hotel next door, but will go out of my way to go back next time I'm in DC. My better half and I sat at the bar, as we like to do. I find I always get better service at bars in good restaurants. This place is no exception.

Tesoro is a relatively unassuming restaurant, with simple decor, non-flamboyant menus, and waiters who are not pretentious salespeople. That is because Tesoro is one of the very few Italian restaurants in the United States that focuses on the quality of the food. I just traveled all over Italy recently and Tesoro in many ways is an authentic Italian dining experience. The only "Americanized" aspect of the meal was that the portion sizes are bigger than what you would find in Italy--which, combined with the very modest prices--means customers are getting a great deal. The waiter was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, funny, and candid about the restaurant. He had a great personality and exuded a lot of the passion for quality food that I saw in Italy. As far as the food, it was all great. What stood out the most was the pizza. The biggest problem with American pizza is that the tomatoes are low quality. They may come from parts of the U.S. that simply do not have the right climate for tomatoes, or they may come from cans and are mixed with other ingredients to create an artificial freshness, etc. Tesoro gets their tomatoes from Italy. They are fresh and sweet and impart a refreshing and vibrant taste that beautifully harmonizes with the rest of the pizza. All they do is mix in some salt and olive oil. Frankly, Tesoro should have 5 stars. The fact that the rating at this time is closer to 4 stars suggests to me that many who have eaten there do not know what high quality Italian food is.
