Shebelle Ethiopian Restaurant

What a wonderful experience. We made a reservation about an hour before and the tables were ready and reserved for us when we got there. Half of our party hadn't arrived but they gave us no issues and seated us while we waited. When the rest of our party, they accommodated us and made us feel very comfortable even though we had a lot of kids. The food was amazing. Some of the best kitfo I've ever had. We were there for a while and they never once hassled us. They were very friendly and engaged us in conversation and we're great with the kids. We will definitely be back here for Ethiopian food when we're back in DC, and will definitely be suggesting this to friends coming to DC.

Some of the best food we've ever eaten, and easily the best Ethiopian. The lentil sambusa came early and wowed our socks off with a perfect (not to oily) batter, and a lentil filling that was seasoned to make your mouth water. You see two of them in the photos because it's was so good, we had to order another, even before the other food came! The meat Combo that followed exceeded every expectation we had, with perfectly cooked meats, amazing seasoning, enjera (Ethiopian bread) that was the perfect balance of soft/spongy/sour, and spice levels that made our mouths wake up and party. We also loved the pictures in the restaurant, and the service was friendly, helpful, and attentive!

We were in the area and went there attracted by the 5 star review. The food is DELICIOUS and not expensive (I had the vegetarian sampler). It is all made fresh so don't go there if you are in a rush. The waiter is super friendly and gives really good recommendations. I will go back again for sure. It is absolutely worth 5 stars.
