The food was not of my liking whatsoever. The menu had food stuck in the cracks as you opened it. The Monday lunch special is a bit small and some of the sides were brought over after the rest of the meal. I never thought that you could ruin fries, but they seemed to. My brother tried putting ketchup on them to make it better, but nothing would help. Don't get me wrong, the waitress was totally nice and friendly. We will not be going there any time soon. This is just my personal experience that I had and my honest opinion. Now the bakery is a whole different story. Their pastries and desserts look fomomanol. Although I didn't try any, I believe that they would have been delicious with a variety of different items. The picture was my personal favorite aspect of the restaurant.

Went during a non busy period and the service was a little slow but not terrible. I ordered the cod sandwich with fries. The menu said the portion was generous but it was just one piece on a large bun. The taste was good however. The fries were sweet, which I thought was strange, I believe they were sprinkled with sugar? I didn't see that on the description on the menu which could be a concern. I think the prices were what I would expect. I love the decor and the atmosphere, I think in time it could be great with some tweaking. They are just starting out. I will try again.

Better than expected. I had the cod cut ups, the others had chicken fried steak they all enjoyed that. The cut ups were good, corn meal breading. Served hot, and crispy with a grilled lemon half, very nice touch. I had fries and mac n cheese, good, but nothing to write home about. The flower pot bread and the honey butter served with it was delicious, also a nice touch. All the food was served hot, and the service was perfect. Very enjoyable experience. Will definitely go back.

Food has been fresh and really good each of the 4x we have been there to eat. We went 15 minutes before closing time and although I felt bad going in at the last minute, they were friendly and very accommodating and did not seem at all frustrated that we showed up at the last minute and ordered fried chicken, which takes 20 minutes to cook. Their food has been fresh and they serve big portions. Their fried chicken is amazing and so is their selection from the fresh bakery. They have a gift shop kind of like cracker barrel, yet it's a family owned business with a very personal, southern hospitality charm to it.

UPDATE: we had a not so good experience with an order getting messed up. Bootsie's went above and beyond to fix it. I'm impressed with how much they care about their customers. We had a great experience. The place is adorable, our waitress was great. They bring you bread with that delicious sweet butter. My salad was awesome. Don't know why people are reviewing so harshly... They are a new business still trying to get their groove! I'm glad to have a place like this is Waterloo :)

This place has the same setup and feel of the Cracker Barrel chain, except there is also a full service bakery integrated as well. This was our first time here, and we all ordered something different so we could share. Everything was excellent. Service was good too. Two minor gripes. First, they only serve breakfast during the morning. I work nights, so I was looking forward to country breakfast. I wasn't disappointed with my food selection, but I was bummed I couldn't get breakfast. Second, the transition from dining area to bathroom was startling. The general area is done in muted classic country earth tones with dim lighting and the bathroom is bright lit white. Like, took several seconds for my eyes to adjust white. Like, Star Trek remake too much lens flare bright. It was an... interesting design choice. Overall though, very happy with my experience.

Went last week with party of 12. Good service. Many at our table had fried chicken, a good choice. My daughter liked the meatloaf and son in law said his steak was great. My side dishes needed more attention by the chef, but not too bad. Thank you for taking on the task of feeding our large group.

I ordered a BLT with a side of fries. I received a BLT and a baked potato. Pointed it out to a server shortly before my groups food came out with 3 more baked potatoes as well as a duplicate of one of our orders. Nobody at our table ordered baked potatoes. To top it off, the one we kept just happened to have a hair in it. When I finally got my fries they were covered in sugar, not salt. It took 30+ minutes to get the free bread that everyone is supposed to receive as an appetizer. On that note, the portion size for our one appetizer was poor. A handful of fried green beans for $6?? Running out of this and that. First night open though, so I'll try again in a few weeks and see how it goes. The atmosphere however was pleasant. It's a very nice looking restaurant, and I'd like to see the experience improve in the future.
