Susie Wong - Restaurant & Bar

There are many Fusion Asian type of restaurants opened in Melbourne in recent years. I thought Susie Wong will be one of them. It's interesting that the restaurant is located in Windsor. What I meant is that not a lot of Asian live there but it could also attract Asian if the taste is right. The restaurant is not very easy to spot. The sign is rather small. It's not far from the Adult Shop. First thing that I notice about the restaurant is the interior decoration. It definitely has a strong oriental flavoured. Very pretty in red. There is a option for Chef's choice. For someone that like to try a bit of everything it's a no brainer option. The food portion is very generous. I definitely walked out from the restaurant feeling very full. Lucky we only went with 5 dishes and 7 dishes. I wouldn't call their food Asian Fusion. They serve different dishes from Southeast Asia. They have nicely implemented their own Western flavour to suit the locals. The oriental flavoured is extremely lacking in their dishes unfortunately. They do have 1 stand out dish, which is their Coconut desert in banana leaf. My friend commented she will come back here just for the dessert. I am not sure if they made their own dessert. Their service is definitely a 5 stars service. I'm Asian and I pay a lot more attention to the taste of the food rather than the service.

Great food and a great location if you are heading to Red Stitch. No keg beers but good range of Asian labels plus some locals. Calamari was beautifully cooked and tasty. The roti is delicious and we tried the fish and tempe dishes. Staff are friendly and attentive. Relaxed atmosphere with options to be in or out.

Really really good food, and surprisingly uncrowded the night we had dinner there, given there were 45-90 minute waits at all the other places. Had the oxtail dumplings in master stock (so good!), fried tofu with bean paste, eggplant and nashi pear salad. All amazing. Cocktail selection was fab too. Will be back!

Came here on a Thursday night around 6 pm and the menu looked amazing. Unfortunately they seemed severely understaffed, we could see one waitress (who was also doing bar service) and two chefs for a restaurant that was quickly filling up. After nearly 40 minutes of being seated and looking at the menu, we needed to leave and we did. I was prepared to pay the price and was sure the food would have been interesting, though would really only give it another go if I was certain of how long we would be waiting for before being served or noticed.

This truly is the neighbourhood gem! From the moment we walked into the warm and cosy room we were treated like part of the family. The service is attentive, familiar and genuine. (A rare find these days). The food is Asian style with modern flare, and does not disappoint. Beautiful aromas and flavours make each dish a standout and also makd it impossible to pick a favourite. We can wait to get back and taste them all.

Went to here last night with friends. I chose the restaurant as I've been wanting to come for a few years. Unfortunately it was Cluster of errors from the minute we were seated. Lets start with drinks. Firstly they were out of Hendricks gin and a two of the limited beers on their menu. The waitress who admitted was on her third shift knew nothing about the beers or wines which were expensive. The cheapest wine was $56. My tanquaray 10 G and T was $14! When she poured the wine she missed the glass completely and wine went flying across the table Dinner: they were out of 4 dishes! It is Saturday night @ 6.30pm. Really??? The food was nice enough but i felt the mains were on the small side and all tasted similar. All in all Nothing special. I was embarrassed as i had chosen the restaurant. The staff on general were just kind of wierd. When the head waitress was explaining the specials she was also informing us if the prices which i thought was odd and she kept looking at the door... it was just a wierd vibe in general.
