Red Door Yum Cha

Red Door Yum Cha is an unassuming restaurant hidden in a street in Windsor but the interior is very different to what you see on the outside. Decked out with oriental decor and a variety of different seating options. It was reminiscent of a Chinese tea house. We were keen to eat as many dumplings as our stomachs could take but nothing wowed us here, making us feel like we hadn’t really satisfied our cravings yet. We ordered: 🐷 BBQ Pork Bun 🦞 Lobster, Prawn & Scallop Dumplings 🦐 Pork & Prawn Sui Mai 🥟 Sharkfin Wonton 🦆 Duck Bean Curd Wrap 🐓 Shanghai Chicken Soup Dumplings 🐔 Chicken Sui Mai Definitely not the best assortment of dumplings I’ve had but also not the worst. We found everything to be pretty average in terms of both quality and flavour. We were also confused by the Shanghai Chicken soup dumplings because there was no soup whatsoever 😕 Service was okay, we didn’t really have much interaction with them besides taking our orders and serving our food. Can’t say I’ll be back in a rush.

Not one to usually review but this experience truly deserves it.. picture this. Mothers Day, the restaurant haranguing you to pre order your meal.. reading reviews of fantastic food. WELL how much of a let down. Disappointed does not even describe how sad these two hours were… Service? Poor. Why are all of the wait staff so disinterested in being there.. why are they wearing sweats that one would wear to the gym? How it is that we could be asked to preorder and the meals be so slow to arrive.. I am talking an hour into our sitting that a handful (not all) of our dumplings arrive and then (for a party of two) only one main arrives. To quote my mother, “I have never waited so long for this kind of meal.” It goes without saying that mum and I left without her receiving her meal. Food was very average.. probably 3/10. Honestly the way they served the dumplings were so out of line with Asian hospitality. The only thing I can compliment this restaurant on is their attempt at being “Chinese” - it feels like a gimmick. If you want some nice Instagram photos but don’t care about the quality of food or service this place could be cool I guess

I loved the place and I think it was very high quality food but the catch is that it was the first time I was having Yum Cha in this way. Apparently it's usually served on a tray which is moved around in the restaurant but here we had to order from a menu... My friend thought this was a big deal but it didn't bother me one bit. The atmosphere was amazing and they have a few really nice cabin/bed style seating arrangements which you can reserve in advance. Staff appeared casual backpacker tourist type but both were very nice and friendly... Make sure you check them out, the location is hidden so not easy to see from Chapel Street.

One of the worst meals I’ve ever had. We ordered the eat me and left more than half of it behind as it was that bad. There seemed to be only one person running the whole restaurant (cooking and serving) so we were positive everything we were eating was just being heated up from a packet. When we told the guy running the place he was surprised to get such a bad review and only took the drinks off the tab even though we couldn’t finish what we ordered. Would never go back!!!!!!!
