The Diner's Grill

January 2022, ordered takeaway burgers for lunch. Split the special Animal Style burger and Fatboy, and an order of fries, with my partner who is also a lover of burgers. First off, the buns were notably good. They really held together well, even after travelling for 10 minutes. But they were still soft and tasty. We both liked the Animal Style burger a bit more than the Fatboy. The burger sauce was very nice, and the simplicity of the burger overall was spot on: sauce, cheese, onions, pickles. Patty was soft and tasty. In regards to the Fatboy, the chili was thicker, beefier, and more plentiful than other classic Winnipeg Fatboys. Personally, I found the bottom bun a bit too loaded with toppings: mustard, pickles, tomatoes, onions... basically the mustard was a bit overpowering for me on this Fatboy in general. But again, the patty and bun were excellent. What I did appreciate was that this Fatboy did not feel like it was trying to imitate other Fatboys. It is unique unto itself. I expect some people might prefer this particular Fatboy to other Winnipeg Fatboys. The fries were good, even reheated at home. They are of the fatter, medium crisped variety and had a nice amount of salt on them. One order is definitely big enough to share for 2 people. Ultimately, I believe that the burgers from The Diner's Grill might rival anything else in Winnipeg, but I will need to try a few more before I can be sure. Which I will do. 2 weeks later update... I tried the Reuben Burger and a homemade soup, cabbage roll soup, and both were excellent. Lots of Reuben meat on the burger. Soup was rich and hearty. Friends ordered a Reuben sandwich and the fried chicken sandwich, both were huge and thoroughly enjoyed. I can't wait to eat my way through the entire menu.
